Any motor can burn oil. More in the cold weather during startup. Oil change every 5k is not necessary. But that's your money.

I second mbpoindexter. Change it. Keep an eye on it. I check my oil weekly.

So......no time within that four months or 7k miles was the oil ever checked?

As @krs stated.....it’s not a bad idea to check it weekly. I check mine more often than weekly.....but I’m OCD.

With any vehicle I have owned i checked it lots and once I have an idea of general oil consumption I will lengthen my oil level check intervals. Sometimes I go as long as a few weeks. But after a long heavy day of towing I will check the following day.

I always check the oil engine cold on level ground. Gives me the most consistent readings.
