Bone stock 24v, 3 lift pumps in 3K miles over six month span. Truck sits mostly because i have company truck for daily drive to work. Fixing to drop tank and check the sock on the sending unit to make sure it ain't collapsed, then replace rubber lines to and from tank. Anything i'm missing or someone had a similiar problem? :confused013::S:

Yes stock pumps. Replaced fuel filter everytime i replaced the pump. Back probed voltage to pump while truck is running. Voltage is around 13.5V, so no excessive drop there. It's kinda funny, i'll crank it one morning to drive it to go pick up something, and it'll just quit. I'd considered a aftermarket pump, but am concerned that there's another underlying issue at hand.

What do you mean by quit? ie doesn't run for ~ 30sec when you bump the starter or no fuel pressure?

probably not....if you have voltage to the pump and no fuel pressure then the pump went bad. stock lift pumps are JUNK!!!!! the problem your talking about isnt unheard of. hooking up and brand new stock replacement and poof! they die.

The VP should be able to suck enough fuel through a dead pump though to keep running. bad for the VP but it should run.

doesn't help the vp that the truck sits nose uphill by about ten degrees or so. probably what killed it. maddux, where you recommending a complete airdog system or just the raptor replacement pump?

Have you ever dissected the pumps you replaced before to see if they truly failed? 3 pumps in 3,000 miles is excessive. I went through 3 factory pumps in 75,000 miles which I thought was excessive....

Screw stock lift pumps, and all electric lift pumps, including Airdog/Raptor. (except for FASS)

Kinda funny you mention the 10 degrees uphill cause that my brothers lift pump went out the day after he parked it on a 10 or 15 degree drive. Complete Airdog 150 and it runs great. however the other day he parked in the same spot and the truck lost prime. I'm thinking it is possible the VP is going out.
I would get the complete Airdog set with the draw straw and all. Don't worry about the 1/4 tank issue alot of ppl are having. Just pull they bed and reach down in the tank and make sure you cut it just a 1/16in or less from the bottom of the tank and then cut two little spots out so that it can't be sucked to the bottom of the tank. Done this on 3 trucks so far and haven't had one issue. Drove mine 20 miles after the fuel light came on the other day.
Edit: Have 20K on my airdog and just replaced the filter.

i would love to just pull the bed, but not gonna happen. truck grosses 15k empty. guess where the weights at, lol.
anyways, vp was replaced 10k ago. i was thinking lines, and just gotta have some daylight when i get home to crawl under and replace them.

haha I did mine when I put a new flatbed on it. the fuel lines wouldn't have anything to do with the lift pump failing.

you don't think a soft rubber line that's eleven years old could collapse and starve the pump of fuel? maybe even get it hot and burn it up? we see it all the time on the tractors that have a suck pump on the speed housing or drop box.

A fuel pressure gauge would answer all of your questions. . .
actually i thought that too..... grabbed a banjo test kit from the shop, checked at the IP all three times i put a new pump and filter on, 7-10 psi .
i was starting to think more of a vacuum guage, to check pump supply restriction. just don't have one that won't be ruined by diesel.

I sort of doubt a collapsed fuel line. You can inspect for damaged or crimped lines. I have seen on occasions where the fuel filter housing is air locked. with the engine in bump start mode, loosen the cover to allow fuel to escape. If foam comes out wait till solid fuel sprays and tighten. This might explain the hill issue.
