so i am in school for automotive and we have the factory scan tool so i enabled or unlocked the 3 cyl high idle but how does it work? or how do i make it go into 3 cyl idle?:confused013:

from what im told it kicks on automatically depending on the coolant temp.

The high idle kicks in when it is 32* F or lower. What it does is ramp up the RPM's to around 1200 and then cuts fuel to 3 cylinders to produce more heat which warms the engine quicker.

If you want to be able to force your truck into high idle you will have to do mopar1973man did.

True but you can also have the trucks scanned to activate it.. if you know anyone with a smarty they can do it for you too.. Im not spending the 100 bucks to have the stealership do mine so im going to find someone with a smarty..

High idle kicks in when the IAT sees 32*, so it has to be a little cooler outside, usually less than 25* is what I have seen. For the 3 cylinder idle to kick in the IAT has to see less than 15*, so at about 10* ambient. The truck also can't be plugged in for this software to work. And lastly the coolant temp must be below 140*

Rite on i didn't know the exact temps. Thanx for the info.

i talked to my local dodge dealer and said they dont do it, wtf??
Find a Smarty in that case, they wanted 150 bucks to do my truck.

Plus you have to talk to the cummins mechanic at the stealership not the service desk.
