Looking at a new truck with an auto that is perfect except it has 3.42 gears. I dont tow much at all, will I notice any difference in regular driving vs the 3.73s in my 07 6.7 auto that I have now? Both are completely stock.

You should notice better fuel mileage on the highway :)

With 285/70R17 tires the truck turns 1900rpm at 80mph and gets 22mpg (interstate). Doesn't get much better than that. I also pull a 24ft stock trailer and a 32ft flatbed about half the time with no problems. I average anywhere from 10-14mpg depending on how heavy i'm loaded. General driving too and from the ranch and town i average 15-18mpg. I'll usually manually drop it a couple gears on our roads (dirt and gravel) cause 45mph is usually fast enough and it will shift all the way too 6th and run around 1000-1100rpm. I back it off to 4th and she runs around 1600.

So you put 3:42's in your 07.5?

I'm sorry, I assumed being that the truck seems so long legged. I honestly don't know what the ratio is, guess i better find out

The rear ends were 3:73 and 4:10 with the auto in 2007 and 2008

Your 3.42's with the stick is about the same as a 3.73 with an auto for final drive numbers.

For me the 3.73 is perfect. 3.42 would be to high of gearing with an auto, in my opinion.
I like running down the highway at 70 MPH pulling 18K and only running 1625 on the tach....

I like the lower rpm's on the highway too... not quite as low as yours^^^ but still... with fuel prices everything that helps is welcome!
