HEY all,

I have an f250 I've been working on for awhile and have gotten around to wiring it in and attempting a test fire.

the motor is 24v 5.9 1998.5 with a he351 and a plug

Pin 48 and 50 I have fuse and run to a relay - hot

Pin 49 - ground (its black and tan)

Injection Pump I have black and tan wire grounded

Injection Pin I have the red white with strip pinned hot in run with relay with fuse

Pin 5 light green black is keyed 12v and fused

Pin 36 brown white is keyed 12v and fused

I have tried with and with out pin 36 wait to start orange and black - hot 12v in start fused

The issue is..... it doesn't start, I have charged and new dual batteries and it cranks very well, I bled all 6 lines and fuel poured out after some air( I did do 150 injectors), I have a 165 air dog and have turned the pressure up, I get fuel at the vp and the return does allow some minimal fuel to drain out. While cranking I do get white smoke coming from the exhaust( motor has no coolant in it yet). I can hear the vp44 click on. I have installed a brand new Crank position sensor, the original upon inspection was bent outwards so for peace of mind I did it. I have check wires for being "pulled" out of ecm and connectors and fixed or replaced them. WHAT AM I MISSING ???? any advice is appreciated. I have a duramax and have done just about anything u can think of to it short o twins and injectors so the work isn't a problem, I have the tools and gauges for diagnostics. later tonight I will be wiring in an scan port to see if I can pull codes.

my idea is with fuel at injectors and smoke, I have at some level primed the system and am getting fuel so the vp is at least on allowing flow( doing at hot wire at the vp makes no change). Lift pump is on. so air and fuel are good, I'm having an ecm issue ..?

should I go for the camshaft sensor ?

I assume the motor will turn on with a bad oil sensor, I have brand new oil in the motor to spec and I just finish the coolant system so I can fill it easily

Thanks guys

im not a big electrical guy so i dont know how much help i can be but you sure its timed correctly? when i rebuilt my motor a few months ago it took forever to start. make sure you're hitting the gas pedal as you crank it. if you can hear it start to fire then give it more fuel. its takes a lot to get these old 5.9's to fire for the first time after a complete rebuild

Is the ecm grounded to the block properly?

Cam sensor can't hurt but I rarely see them actually go. They usually snap off with age if anything.

The last time I flashed up a rebuild, it took well over 2 minutes of cranking to get it to fire, and that's after bleeding all injectors. Some times there can be an air pocket that just won't clear.

this. i was starting to worry after my rebuild. bled the lines, primed the fass even disconnected the cold pipe to the manifold and shot some starting fluid up the intake elbow. finally lit after hitting the go pedal. and dont pump the gas, but rather keep it down halfway. once i could hear it start to go i hit the pedal more until it fired and then quickly let off. it will still take about 2-3 seconds to completely come alive once it starts going. the first startup is the hardest until pressures and fluids are "normalized"

another thing i just thought of and didnt see you mention was did you prime the oil system? the injectors fire off oil pressure and unless you crank the motor for a few minutes, it wont start until oil gets into all the oil galleys

Uh, no it doesn't. Doesn't need any oil pressure to run....ask me how I know. :/

Have you bled the injector lines to squirting on at least 3 of them?
What year ecm does it have? PN? Did it come with the engine? What did the engine come out of? What was wrong with donor truck? Does the lift pump run for 25 seconds with starter bump? Does it run while cranking?(It should not)

Zero oil pressure kill it but should not prevent it from starting. , but no signal I do not know?
Can you get an OBD port hooked up?

No signal will not kill it or prevent it from running. I had a chance to test this last week when my MAP sensor fused to ground and cooked the OPS too.

hey guys, I didn't see these replies and I just threw up a new post of where im at now. I did replace the cam and crank sensors. and the truck runs - was a pain to bleed out and wasn't holding prime bc of a bad banjo (now fixed and will started up every couple days hen I get time to work on it tho I can only start it with ecm unplugged if any one has a possible answer to that one. I dropped some pics as well if you're interested!
