Well, after dealing with the "wrong gears" on my truck, and now paying a shop to rehear to 4.10, we find out my 11.8 is actually a 11.5, really FCA? i have the 11.8 outer axle casing with the 14 bolt aluminum finned cover and an 11.5 diff inside with a 12 bolt ring gear WTF.
End of rant, i really like the cummins and Aisin, and the exhaust brake, but being taken for a ride on the purchase of the truck (new from dealer), this will be my last Ram or FCA product for that matter, I bought from the same dealer in 1 year (2016) a 2016 ram 3500, 2016 ram 1500, 2016 jeep grand cherokee and a 2016 200C.
And the dealer pretty much says...its not they're fault, can't help me, call FCA.

NO, my window sticker stated 3.73, i got 3.42's, got a shop to re gear the truck to 4.10's, they ordered the AAM 4.10 for the 2016 year, but FCA left a little detail out, YOU ONLY GET THE 11.8 IF you get 3.73 or 4.10, well I was suppose to have the 3.73....long story

did your window sticker have under options:

AISIN 6-Speed Automatic Transmission $2,695
- 3.42 Axle Ratio
3.73 Axle Ratio $50

you should have had a charge under the Aisin option for the 3.73 or 4.10 if ordered that way?

What are you towing that you need more than 3.42? lots of people are happy just locking out 6th with the 3.42 gears. 5th with 3.42 and 6th with 4.10 is almost identical RPM

dailly towing 20000#'s, few times a month close to 30000#'s, I float my own equipment on a tandem dually gooseneck.
Apparently the Canadian Issued window stickers are different than the USA ones, and as previous discuss on a different thread that i started.

yes, I remember now...that is a lot of weight...maybe you can source an axle from a wrecked truck?

You have the opposite issue I did.. I ordered 11.5 3.73 gears and ended up having an 11.8 my truck is a 2014 2500 with 68RFE. Now I'm waiting a few weeks for correct gear set.

4.10s with an Aisin will be able to pull good down low with lower ratios

I’ve said it before these trucks can have various axle configurations. Any decent gear shop will use your vin for selecting gears as they know it’s the only way to be sure of the right parts.

If your shop didn’t do that it’s their fault for not checking.

Now it's getting really deep in here. There is ONE option available for the 2500s - 3.42 gears in the 11.5. PERIOD. You can't even get the 11.8 in a single rear 3500.

Apparently AAM ran out of 11.5s and started putting random 11.8s in

That's the story I was given.

Both my shop and the dealer run the VIN, it is suppose to have a 11.8, it was also suppose to have 3.42. My window sticker and invoice do not match the rear end, it is a 2016 aisin DRW.

If that’s true the factory messed up somewhere. First case I’ve heard of something like that. The line would have had to scan a completely different axle from the one that they actually installed. Knowing what I know about assembly line process that’s almost impossible. Not saying it didn’t happen but it extremely unlikely.

I would raise hell if that is the case. Some of these trucks new cost as much as a small house.
Just get a set of (sarcasm injected) 5 ton rockwells problem solved.

You need to be mad at yourself, not FCA. You got the correct gears unless you properly ordered one with 4:10 gears. Default is 3.42 once the 6.7 option is selected. You do not get 3.73 unless you have a gas truck... Period. 11.5 is the correct gear sizing for a 3.42 setup. 11.8 ring gear would be for the 4:10 upfit. They did not make a mistake. You did.
