2014 Laramie 4x4 mega cab (first Diesel)

4318 Views 28 Replies 17 Participants Last post by  EODDAVE14
Just ordered my first Diesel last week. I own a 2001 1500 Off road edition ram with a 5" BDS lift running 35x12.50 tires and was looking at the power wagon. All the guys talked me into the Diesel and said I wouldn't be disappointed so I took the Plunge.

2014 4x4 Mega cab Laramie, Granite Crystal Metalic, 6.7 Cummins with 68RFEtranny, Bucket seats, Ram Box, Sun roof, uplifter switches, Clearance lamps, Spray bed liner, cargo camera and dual alternators.

Should be ready for pickup when I get back from Afghanistan!!!
Been reading Spoiled Nasty's thread and I can't wait to start making modifications!!!!!

That should be an awesome truck and thank you very much for your service.
If there's anyway at all to replace that order with the Aisin transmission, I would...I had a 2010, CC, stock, no deletes and would never, ever use that 68RFE again. Maybe I had a "lemon", and my experience was out of the norm, but I've got 1335 miles on my 2013 HO, with the Aisin and I can tell you there is a marked and distinct improvement with this truck all the way around.

I've been driving the 68RFE since 2007 without issue.
HDXBONES, you are a lucky man, and so are the others out there that have run the 68RFE without incident. My perspective with my problems aside, if you are going to order a vehicle, and your first Diesel, why not go for the gusto and get the most output offered by the manufacturer.

In the long run of things, for the cost involved when ordering, it's really pennies on the dollars to upgrade to the 6.7 HO/Aisin. Even with my poor experience with my first diesel, I'm still brand loyal and thrilled for anyone that can order a vehicle with their preference options.

Good luck to all and,
Semper Fidelis.

:agree2:

Especially the bolded part.
Congrats on the order. I'm curious what exactly did they say to you in order for you to make the decision for the cummins over the power wagon? I almost pulled the trigger on a 14 2500 in crestview recently but I'm on standby to see what this 14 power wagon is all about.
Have to get the 3500 to get the Aisin transmission according to Dodge. Do not need that much truck.

I have a 27' Chaparral Boat that I tow and all the ram owners here love their Cummins and say they would never go back to gas for a truck.
Power Wagon is 5.7 or 6.4 gas and cannot get the leather interior with the paint scheme I wanted on the wagon and most importantly I wanted the Mega cab after looking at it and the Wagon will not be available with the Mega cab option.
Ordered in Mariana FL since I live in Niceville. They did me right on the price. Beat Military Overseas sales by $1500+
Can someone tell me why there are little to no aftermarket parts (Engine/Exhaust) for the 2014 6.7L yet? I understand the lift not being available since it is a new rear coil design. I've noticed that 2013 pats are limited as well. Is there some sort of Environmental crap that limits parts?
I'm new to Diesels so don't shoot me for asking a stupid question!!
Different emissions EODDAVE. I have a 2796 Hydra that I tow and my 3500 Aisin does a much better job towing that boat than my 2500 did. Just giving you my real world experience on the two. I had to put airbags on my 2500 to level it, but not my 3500. Love the 3.42 gears in my 3500 too, much better fuel economy than my 4.10

Hopefully they will have something soon. I just bought a 2013 2500 ram and its hard to find anything. I think there just trying to figure stuff out about them before they release their stuff. And again thank you for your service. I love my truck so far and I know your going to enjoy yours.

+1 :agree2:
+2 (We'll, OK, so I have only had the truck since last Friday, it has 1800 miles on it and 68RFE is working great.)

Seems you need to read this thread: http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/2010-2012-general-discussion/773441-minor-milestone.html

500,000 miles on stock 68RFE, towing trailers all over the country.

Just because your transmission had problems does not mean it's a bad transmission design. New parts fail in all brands, models, and configurations.
Again, I hope everyone has much better success and longevity than we did with the 68RFE. I don't need validation or vindication from anyone that's running a tranny that holds together for them, that was not our experience with that transmission.

I just would never run that 68RFE ever again, and given that RAM has seen fit to offer an HO Cummins with an Aisin, that's the route we took. There might be a reason RAM isn't offering the HO with the 68RFE behind it. I offer everyone running what ever they have sincere best wishes.

So, it's ok to talk trash about someone else's transmission choice, in their thread, but no one else should offer any positive experiences?.....

Thank you for your service!
Using the information in the towing guide, the aisin transmission option actually towes less weight until you go to a dual rear wheel option. I think EODDAVE14 is ordering a 2500. I would not pay $2800 and have less capability.

Dude, I'm not, and have not "talked trash" to anyone. I related our experiences with this transmission, the factory 68RFE, and 11, ELEVEN, ATS 68RFE rebuilds in 66500 total miles on a stock 3500, with an Edge CTS, now hear this, never turning it past the PW 3 setting which, if I remember right was the Drive setting. We put the Edge on for the extra gauges and backup camera, because I did add a Carli 3" lift and didn't want to run over my Grandchildren playing behind "Papa's big truck".

No deletes, even air intake stock, with Mag Hytec covers on everything and Amsoil synthetic in everything at 25000 miles. Not one ounce of trouble with the Cummins, just the tranny.

HDXBONES, if you want to engage and fire the first salvo in talking trash, pull the trigger, otherwise your just yapping like a little Chiwawa at my heals. :hehe::hehe:

I'll state again, I'm overjoyed that so many folks have had success with the 68RFE their running, but, I personally know several people here in my town, that are good friends, and we've all had problems.

EODDAVE, as I wrote you earlier, good luck and GOD's speed.
