It wasn’t that many years ago a (2001/2002) 3500 Dually with a Gooseneck/5er could only drag 12-14k lbs max and that was with a Manual, Auto couldn’t hang over around 12k.

Now we are talking 30k lbs plus, not to mention a couple hundred HP and Ftlbs of torque, now 400/1000 or more. If we keep going forward in this manner the trans is going to be larger and heavier than the mighty engine that powers it.

Technology is great but we may be hitting a wall soon. The trans is going to be more expensive than the Diesel engine.

Since it’s been said here that it’s the end of internal combustion engines, the new electric trucks really won’t require a transmission per say with a series’s wound DC motor.:stirpot::nerd:

Funny you say that, I’ve loaded my 01 Cummins 3500 over 30k lbs before and on average pulled about 26k lbs combined weight for over 100k miles with a mild tow build 47re. Transmission still holding fine and truck has 3.55s which really suck for towing heavy. Those old 47r’s can put in work with just a bit of modifications.
