2013 camera help!!!

I am supposed to pick up my new mega cab SLT with uconnect 8.4. The salesman just called me to tell me that the truck is on from dealership they got it from. He said it does not have a back up camera. Now I assumed every truck with a 8.4 had a back up camera. That's more important to me than Nav. I asked him how much to install one and he said its impossible. True or false? And if false what's the install like? I'm short on time and can't search.

I would say, just wait to find one the way you want it. Add'ons can end up being a pain. I'm not sure if it can even be done with the 8.4. I suppose you couls instal one of those aftermarket units wit the small monitor etc, but I'd look into it before buying the truck.
Use it as a bargaining chip to get the truck cheaper.

For what its worth there are kits to add them to the pre-2013 trucks so im sure they will appear for the 2013+ trucks at some point.
Thanks for the help fellas. I was able to research it further and it looks like echomaster makes a solution
If you guys came to a deal and it included a backup camera then I would stand my ground. Either they install one at no charge, they discount the price of a OEM kit, or they find you a new truck with what you originally asked for.

No reason to settle when you are the one that will make the payments.

True it is a plug and play add on the 12's but for some reason not on the 13's

Get what you want or you will not be happy and get the nav it is very nice and easy to use.
My dealer has the mega that I ordered coming in in the next week or two, that I cancelled on!! I had to have a crew instead.
The mega is nicely equipped if you're interested- it is a Laramie fully loaded with front bench, in Max steel two tone SRW . Msrp was about 66k, and he was selling to me for 55k I think .
It has BOTH cameras!
Pm me if you want contact info
He deducted it from the sale price and they're installing it for free. Great customer service.
Tell him ur gonna pass on the deal, it's not what u want.

He will find a way to solve ur problem within 5 minutes.

Sounds like they have a similar truck and hope you will take it. Don't. U do not have any cards to play when u sign the deal.

So much for "impossible". Almost anything is possible BEFORE you write the check.
Yep. I will take done of the blame for not catching it on the window sticker that I got as an attachment in an email. I just hadn't ran across a 13 with 8.4 uconnect without parkview. But the dealership/salesman are making it right. Taking an additional $200 off plus installing the camera for free gets me up to 24% off MSRP. I'm happy and that's all that counts. I'm just thankful for the awesome community that is this forum. If it can be done to a ram, you can find out how, here.
Same situation here. Have you gotten your camera installed yet? Is the echomaster solution identical to the OEM equipment as far as looks, function, performance?
It arrives today. I'll let you know

I just bought an SLT 3500 without the camera and Dodge has no part number for a camera for it. I even called UConnect and they don't have anything. This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. I finally bought an Echomaster kit on Ebay and installed it and had the dealer perform the necessary flash.

The quality of the camera image is fair at best. It is not HD and it is a little jerky when moving but it is better than backing over one of my kids and useful when hitching up. Also the entire kit is $200 and I got the dealer to do the flash for $65 so not bad for what I paid.. All HD trucks should come with one. Hell, even Toyota Tundra's come with them as standard equipment!
The back up camera on my honda pilot looks like 1080 HD. Love my truck to death but the no backup camera was a kick in the balls. As well as little things light no light under the good or in the glove box. Ok now I'm getting nit picky. Lol

Any tips for the install?
The install is relatively easy but I was pissed that I had to do it on a $57k truck. The instructions are clear. The hardest part is running the cable from the tailgate to the radio. You have to run it through the firewall at some point to get it into the cab and over to the radio area. The instructions for getting the radio out are great. There are no instructions on how to get the wires from tailgate to cab so I just did my best.
Well, did you get it installed? thoughts?

I would like to order the cam, but want to know what I am getting into before I pull the trigger. Thanks.
I got the unit installed no problem. The install at the tailgate was a breeze. I dropped the spare down for better access while I ran the wiring to the front of the vehicle. Had to weave my way there but it's a pretty straight path. I zip tied every foot or so. I brought it into the cab via the hole that the hood latch cable runs through. Getting to the back of the uconnect was scary but easy once I got going. I used 3m quick connects to rob power and ground off the 12v outlet. The suspense is killing me but I called 3 local dealers who all want $150 to flash it. The dealer I bought it from said they'll do it for free but they're 2 hours from my house. I haven't had any free time lately to get over there but I will soon. I had scratches on my taillight when I received my truck so they're going to take care of that too. Figured I'd get them both taken care of on the same trip. I'll let you know.
Well I finally had time to go get the truck flashed for the backup camera and any new updates. The dealer I bought the truck from did this for free in an hour. I excitedly got in and put it in reverse....and got a blue screen. So today I unhooked the 2 pins I installed into the stock harness behind the uconnect. I also unhooked the RCA type connector that came with the kit. I then made sure my ground and power were good. I plugged them back in. I turned the key to acc and placed it in reverse and BINGO. I now have what was essentially a plug and play backup camera. Now I just need to finalize and clean up my zip ties. Very easy install overall. A bit intimidating but very doable. The camera is pointed down a bit obviously because of the tailgate style but I can see about 25 feet behind the truck as well as my hitch. I am VERY happy! If I can help anyone please let me know. $194 on Amazon. Total project cost.
