I have a 2012 Dodge Mega 4x4 with the 6.7 Cummings. 6inch lift and 35" tires Full Delete. It have 175K miles on it and just blew the head gasket between 2-3 cylinders and was pushing exhaust into the coolant system.

Mechanic says i need a new tune because it was causing detention. There was evidence around the edges of the pistons.

I emailed Ray to get a new tune and this was his response.

Robert, sorry but we are not doing tuning MCC tuning any more.
Another fact, diesels do not have detonation like found in gasoline engines. The only thing that can damage piston crowns is excessive heat from over fueling or possible leaking injectors.

Thank You!

So i am looking for someone that can help. I will pay for the tune if necessary and can't get any help from H&S since they are closed now. I just don't want to cause any further damage.

Boost was set to defuel at 30psi. I am not sure the other settings you are looking for.

I am talking with Phil at Anarchy Diesel through email. He is trying to help me..

Any other help or advice would be appreciated.

There's your problem. Your only defuel should be your foot. The defuels are known to pop head gaskets. You should pull the injectors and have them tested. You're at the cusp of when they start to have issues.

NO DEFUEL. Not for boost, EGT, RPM, phase of the moon, nothing, nada, never ever. No defueling. You have gauges and a right foot. If you cannot trust yourself, leave it stock.

Old thread, rookie owner here.
I have experience with turbo charging on another platform and aware of refueling (Fuel cut out)

From the feedback given, stock 2012 CTD has rdefueling? Anyone know why this was done and the parameters for defueling?

De fueling. DONT use it. MYs from 10-12 did not drop back the timing during this event taking place. SOTF is not something you also want to use as the timing does not adjust to that either. Pick your timing during your download and match it with a power level and leave it. As mentioned in the post above yours you could always go with some custom tuning and then not worry about that ever again and keep your HG in place.

Agreed. Defueling is the easiest and fastest way to cause damage on a turbo application.

My guess is that this was added to control rpm. IMO, they should have just dropped timing in that map area to control max rpm but understand that it also increases EGT.

After thinking about what I wrote, I need to keep studying.

I know in gas applications that I run with supplemental alcohol injection, fuel cut off is a no no. Defueling is probably something different, and probably ok since the factory programmed it. (?) Trying to learn....

De fuelling is not ok. The factory didnt program it h&s did. It pulls fuel but not timing. One of the reasons the 6.7 got such a bad rep for blowing head gaskets. H&s let people monkey with things they shouldn't be allowed to mess with unless they understand what they are doing.

De-fuels worked fine in the 7.5 to 09s and other Diesels. It was the 10-12 MYs that could not drop the timing with it when fuel was pulled back. Other Dodge/Rams MYs could.
And just like Smarties which they did not give you a D fuel option still destroyed head gaskets due to incorrect settings as was mentioned above.

You know, before I sold my stock but deleted 2012, I was curious as to what caused SO much black smoke with his tune at WOT. So with the RaceMe, I datalogged WOT with Rays 12v tune and got some high max timing numbers for a stock truck (up to 30 degrees)...

Combine that with a defuel event and :kaboom:.
