Hey Guys, I just bought this truck (3500 SRW-G56) a week ago, it has 30,000 miles. The parking brake has required some serious effort to depress up until about 10 minutes ago when I got in and it was depressed with minimal effort...it still stays down, springs back when the release is pulled and even holds when in reverse (just tested to see). Anybody have any ideas of what has happened. It’s actually nice not to have to press so hard, but something is clearly wrong. It’s a G56 so I use the parking brake all day.

It's possible the previous owner didn't use it and just left the truck in gear when he parked it and the shoes got filled with crud

Thanks for the reply. I know the previous owner and he always used the parking brake. I guess I need to learn mechanically how the parking brake pedal works because something has happened. The obvious culprit I guess would be a broken cable, but like I said, the brake still holds. It’s just the tension upon depressing the pedal that’s drastically changed.

we have e-brake shoes behind the disc? if so maybe a piece of something logged in there and preventing it to fully seat.

Is there an easy way to check or do I have to remove the entire caliper and mount and all that to look?

You'll see the cable running along the drivers side frame rail. Itll have a turn-buckle looking adjuster and the cable will have large foam/rubber donuts on it. I doubt the cable is your issue but might be worth a look to see if anything is obvious.
