This might help you a bit, and I'm sure others will chime in as well... You can see how the torque and other changes have progressed over the years! The '11 was pre-DEF (although other manufacturers were required to use it in that year), so I'd probably choose that, but just me.

If emissions are staying intact then the 2018 model year is definitely the one to go with.
More Hp and more TQ
Heavier rated torque converter better front end and less EGR due to the DEF.
That will net you better mileage and less oil changes especially in the winter months.

The 11’ has no DEF, so no worries about getting a part (when stuff goes wrong) that has been hard to come by. Front end connections are different, the 18’ may ride better, but it’s a 3/4 ton truck, not a Cadillac. Better MPG’s in the 18’, a bigger touchscreen and newer than the 11’.

I wouldn’t own a 2007-2012 because of the emissions systems. They run 3x more egr cycles than a 2013. They also average less mpg than a 2013+. Def isn’t a big deal and it is a vastly superior system than the no-def <2012 models.

I'd skip the 11 for sure. Those were the worst for mpg do to the frequent EGR events. Front end isn't as robust. Also they are a much different vehicle communication system then the 13+ trucks as well as creature comforts are better in the 13+. And then there is the fact that it is 11 years old

The cool kids are talking about 2024’s so that means the 2011 is 13 years old.

They both have the 9.25 AAM axle, aren’t 13’ and using an axle disconnect? And that 2 piece shaft is somehow stronger than a 1 piece? Radius arms give a better ride, so they say, it’s a truck, not a Cadillac! Look at how many problems the SCR and DEF equipped trucks have right here on CF. So it has a bigger touch screen, same style interior and seating, perhaps the led taillights are better. Good luck to you which ever truck ya go with.

I owned a 2012, completely stock. The MPG was terrible because of the aforementioned EGR cycles. I am now in a 2011 that's on a diet and it's a completely different truck than my 2012. Ironically, I prefer the steering wheel controls on my 11 over the 12.

If I put more than 5-10k a year on my 2011 I'd be looking to upgrade into a 13-18 Ram, but I can't justify for the lack of usage on my truck.
