Tossing around the idea of moving up to a 10-12 CCSB and sell my 2003 cclb 4x4 nv5600 4.10 gear.

This 03 is by far the best mileage truck ive had out of the past 6 cummins trucks and all but one were manual. Im seeing 650-700 miles on a tank (highway with cruise at 60mph) empty and its bone stock right down to the exhaust.

Wondering what kind of miles per tank(highway) a stock 10-12 is getting deleted but no increased power mods.

I would regularly see 18 MPG out of my dually with 4.10 auto, unloaded highway, occasionally i would pop over into 20. that was before my rack though. The 13+ 2500s get a little bit better mileage because of the 3.42 gears, Prior to delete my truck got 12, so the delete was a very nice thing for me. lol Although honestly, if your 03 is in good shape, why not keep it? any additional money you spend on a 4th gen could be spent on repair parts to bring the 03 back to to snuff, or to upgrades to make it comparable. throw some 4th gen seats into her, and a double din head unit, and you might be happier with a bigger bank account no less

My 2010 2wd 3.73 gears ,68rfe auto and deleted I can get 13 in town and 20 on the hwy. pulling the 5th wheel I can get 11-12

If your truck is solid I’d keep it and put that cash in savings.

I want a 4x4 manual bad but I owe 17 on this truck and really can’t buy a new one for 430.00 a month notes.

I hear you. i need to do rockers and find another box as rust has set in deep on this 03. So im thinking put money in or buy another truck.

I really did not believe any of these trucks were capable of 20+mpg. Wasnt until i experienced it with this 03. Most of my past trucks were 3.55 or 3.73.

Im actually thinking now that 60mph or less 4.10s are actually the best gear to have. BArley have to touch the pedal to accelerate and puts the 5.9 right at 1900ish rpm at 60 and hardly on the pedal. Cruising that speed with 3.55 and 3.73 puts it below the sweet spot. And to run up to 1900 with 3.55s your doing like 70mph or so. I assume the aerodynamics at this speed hinder the sweet spot rpm as the wind drag iss too much.

Not sure which rpm is the sweet spot with the 6.7 ? i assume maybe a bit lower than the 5.9 ?

My stock, full emissions 2012 2500 with 3.37 and 68RFE would get 19-21 on the highway unloaded, 10-14 pulling a 5th wheel. For some reason fuel mileage dropped about 10% in TX, something other owners have mentioned to me as well.

i assume you meant 3.73, not 3.37 as the factory options in 10-12 were only 3.73 and 4.10 IIRC

My 2012 has 4.10 gears and 2 wheel drive. Solo on the interstate I see 18-20 mpg driving 68-70 mph. Town driving is 15 mpg or so. Towing is 7-11 mph depending on wind, terrain, weather, ect. I have a conservative right foot. Towing, I like to stay in the 62-65 mph range. Seems truck gets best mpg towing there.

Many state that anything over 70 mph and the mileage plummets. I like 68 mph on the interstate. Everyone passes me, and I very rarely pass anyone.

PS. My truck is stock.

Full Emissions at 19-21? I'm calling BS on that. I can't get over 15. I'm 100% stock on a 3500 SRW.

I'd love to get 18. But it isn't happening. Maybe if I Delete.

I thought the 3.42s were about the only factory option? That's what I have in my 11 2500 CCLB 4x4 with G56. Deleted, s&b intake, 5" TBE, mini maxx, rolling on 35x12.5R17s can get a best of 20-21 all highway at 65mph. City is around 15-16

wow... this thread is fascinating to me.

In my 2012 mega cab 3500 dually, I get 10-13.5 all the time. I had 1 single tank that got 14 and the rest are almost all much less.

My truck is stock with 65K miles and has the 68RFE with 3.73s and it is flat out terrible. My '07 5.9 with a G56 got 16-19 all the time unless I was towing but this new truck sucks from a mileage perspective.

I only wanted 15 to be happy with it but I can't even get there with it stock. It is pretty bad.

Is everyone going by what the evic shows or hand calculated? I always show about 1-2mpg more on the display than what it actually is.

How fast are you driving ?

My 2003 was a whole trip at 60-62mph no a/c on as it doesnt work lol. 562 miles round trip. quarter tank left. 650-70 miles before im done im sure.
I think speed plays a big factor on mileage in these trucks. Wind drag after 60-65 im sure gets a lot worse.

From what I have read free flowing exhaust and cold air intakes both lower EGTS but also loose mpg. I never considered this. My 03 has full factory exhaust. Driving it you cant hear anything from the pipe. I figured corked up will hurt mileage, wrong.

My past trucks had 4 and 5 inch straight pipe exhausts.
