I have a new 2008 automatic and has anyone noticed when you push on the accelerator, it has a 1-3 second delay before it starts going. I mainly notice it while cruising down the highway and try to speed up. Then it will down-shift and the motor will race up. Also when I put into reverse, the rpms drop to about 500 and stay there. It sounds like the motor is going to die. Is this normal, are your trucks doing the same thing???

Whatever it came with is good enough as far as I am concerned.. The 500 in reverse is correct.

You could be experiencing turbo lag. It takes a couple of seconds for the turbo to catch up.

the reverse is correct the latest flash depends on the model and its is prob turbo lag.

The throttle on these new trucks are electronic controlled, no more throttle cables. There is a slight delay when you push the pedal before it reacts. I don't like it either.
I'm going to guess that its EGR related... My 01.5 was throttle by wire and there were no delays at all. I have not noticed any delays on the HW in the 6.7, but I have noticed it once or twice around town - at stop signs.
I'm not sure exactly, but I think the EGR may be on when you're about to hit the throttle and he's slow to respond due to lack of boost and the fact that soot and fuel don't burn as well as air and fuel do

I owned a 2001 5.9 & 2007 6.7 and they did not take this long to get going. Ive read on here somewhere that they were having problems with some of the standards with hesatation. I just thought someone with a 08 might have had the same problem and had it in the shop.

My truck does the same thing as turboone's. When I'm cruising around 50 mph or so and then step on the throttle. If I mash the throttle, no hesitation. But when I'm a bit easier there is the hesitation as he described. I too have wondered what is causing this.
My 2008 that has less than 600 miles has the same charastics as trlr prk. This is my second 2008, I swaped my first on in and this new one because of the same problem that the service dept. could not fix.

mine does that too, i think it's just computer controls and their attempt to find a happy medium for everyone. Let your attention wander a little bit when towing in the snow, and you start wishing for a little more delay, nice dry day empty and less would be fine. There are more than a few drivers out there that are not used to the kind of power these things have, and need the help. Like mentioned above, you will get the reaction you want when you get back in the "gas habit" of literally flooring it when you are serious about acceleration. The fords are even worse.
I just wish they would adjust the shift pattern to downshift one gear during moderate throttle stomps on the hwy, not two. dropping to the lower gear, winding up to near redline and then shifting to the gear you really needed takes FOREVER when you are taking evasive action.

Yes I also agree about the downshifting. I thought it was just my truck out of sink. I took mine to the dealer on Tuesday and got the new flash for the 2008. It is the AQ. It has taken almost all the hesitation out. It seems to respond allot quicker now. I haven’t noticed any difference in the shifting or fuel mileage though, but overall im happy that it drives more like my 2001 now.
