Looking at a 2007 Quad Cab 3500. Never owned a Dodge diesel. So heres a few questions..
(1) Does all the 07's have the Exhaust brake on them?
(2) Also had a guy tell me they had a build in Brake controller for a 5th wheel?
(3) This truck has the rosewood on the inside, But cloth seats. Is this normal?
(4) Anyone know how wide the bed is on these and how long? Reason I ask I have a Retrax on my 2004 3500HD and was wondering if It might fit? Not holding my breath.
(5) This truck is in great looking shape and has 117,000 miles showing on it. There asking $17,000. for it makes me wonder if this is cheap and there trying to get rid of it. OR has been in a wreck and put back together? Would for sure get a Carfax ran on it.
(6) I did not get a look at the motor as they were not there. Do don't know if it has the 5.9 or the 6.7 motor? Is one going to be a deal breaker on this truck?:S:
(8) Would this truck make a good one for towing our 2012 Heartland landmark Key largo? Its 41ft long and gross weight is 16,240 lbs. Our single wheel Chevy does a great job Have Rickson 19.5's on it now. But just thinking that extra set of tires back there may help out.

Again never owned a Cummins and love my Duramax, and may just stick with it until I get it broke in. It only has 112,000 miles on it. But like the dodge. :confused013:

Hi, I will try to answer your questions.

1.No; the exhaust brake is standard on the 6.7L tucks only. The 07.5MY sold in January of 07 were the first tucks with the exhaust brake and the 68RFE auto transmission.
2.The built-in brake controllers were offered from the 10MY and on, the earlier trucks the 07.5, 08 and 09 did not offer this feature.
3.The truck could be a higher trim level truck then my truck which is a SLT so I do not know.
4. Is the truck a long bed or short bed version? The box size is almost the same for all model years. There is a PDF available for you to check out see attachment at the bottom.
5. Cannot say need to see the Blue book pricing for that model year.
6. I have a 6.7L engine and the 68RFE and I would not own anything else my son has the 5.9L and 48RF auto. Thou his is nice; I will keep mine for towing my 5er.
7. Is the truck a dually? You might be pushing the limits with a SRW truck 3500 truck. See the attachment at the bottom again.

You will need to click on the Ram and then pick the model of the truck you are looking at. The next area to click is on the right hand side under Technical Information and then Base weights/GCVW/Payload. Box sizes are under the left hand side and 3500 model then the dimensions are listed.

you can't beat a cummins for pulling or longevity. either motor is good, 6.7's do have emissions stuff on them, delete that stuff and you will love it. pulling that big of a trailer you shouldn't have any problems with it stock though. 5.9's get better fuel economy unloaded, but the exhaust brake is worth the trade off. any DRW is definitely going to be more stable pulling heavy though. find out a little more about the truck and post up. if you search you'll find alot of horror stories about the 6.7, which all comes down to the emissions equipment. you can make them very reliable motors though with just a little bit of money

Thanks Here's a pic of the truck

With it having cloth seats and the rosewood panels. Found out it was stolen and the motor and trans taken out, this place put a motor and trans in it. But will find out more about it this week, along with the vin # How hard is it to delete all the emissions equipment if it does have it?

i'd be very leery, definitely wouldn't buy it without a good warranty from them and a good going over by a cummins mechanic, with documentation of new engine. that said it isn't very difficult to delete the emissions equipment, the difficult part in the very near future will be getting a tuner to delete the stuff without having engine light on. I just use simulators in the exhaust but with that method i have to see the MIL on all the time.

Woodgrain and cloth was only in 06, 06 SLT and Laramie have woodgrain, ST would have black plastic. 07+ SLT had silver trim (or simulated carbon fiber for Sport package) and Laramie had woodgrain.

The truck you posted also has the SLT front bumper, I'm thinking a previous owner added the woodgrain or maybe the dealer did to spiff it up.

The 6 speed 68RFE behind the 6.7 is better for towing. If it's a 5.9 the 48re should be fine, just don't get a performance oriented valve body if you ever have to rebuild.

I dunno, a theft recovery could be fine. It will have a branded title, but if the replacement engine/trans are in good condition and the job wasn't hacked up, it could be a decent buy.

I'd be checking EVERYTHING underhood extremely close, if the wiring harness is butchered, I agree, run Forrest run

They unplugged every wire did not cut anything. Then every wire was plugged back into the factory plugs. Motor is clean as a new one. Could read every sticker like it was a new motor. The guy pulled the motor and trans with all electronics off the truck that was hit and junked. Sad part is the truck came with the 5.9 so no exhaust brake. But can add one of these later.
Also has 6 new tires and wheels, as they were taken off also.

Still not sure on this one, as its 2 wheel drive and always had a 4x4. Is it going to get that much better MPG being its a 2 wheel driver vs a 4x4?

Read this post yesterday and wondered why so cheap. I agree with others to check it out very closely. You will not be disappointed with the 5.9 if you decide to buy. It is tried and true. I would say that you will not see much of a differance in milage from the 2WD vs 4WD pulling a large load. My 5.9 gets 25-26 MPG pulling a small utility trailer most of the time BUT with 3:73 rear end. A one ton has 4:10. There are a lot of variables with milage..

Factory or aftermarket? Got a pic? It should be silver on the doors and dash.

Of course, should being the operative word
