ATF does not provide any lubrication for the system. There are detergents in there. People will sometimes run ATF through the system in hopes to clean injectors out.

So why is ATF recommended? It sounded like both the ATF and the 2SO were recommended for the same thing, unless I completely misunderstood their purpose(s). My thought was that either one was OK for lubricity in the fuel thus helping keep injectors and seals in good condition.

The ATF works more as an injector cleaner from what I can tell.

I don't know if I asked this before or not, but is it possible that the dealer may have flashed the software on the computer in my truck and caused the reduction in overall economy? Perhaps this might have been Dodge's response to greater prevalence in bio-diesel at the pumps? I have been taking my truck to the dealer ever since I bought it for annual state inspection stickers and it has been in twice for air-bag replacement due to recalls.
