If you have tryed to start a 5.9l 2006 dodge 3500 12v cummins with g56 Mercedes 6 speed trany and the starter doesnt seam to engage the flywheel ring gear you may want to check the distance from the flange to the flywheel teeth. Then messure how far your starter bendix travel while pulled all the way out from the edge of the seat to the outter edge of the bendix gear. 2.5/8 inch is what it should be. The flywheel should be no deeper then 2.1/2 inches from edge

Turns out the shop didnt not change the adapter plate and used the one that came with the engine. It had a mv5600 trany which is 3 inches thick at the starter. So had to drive to tyler and get the one that came if my engine which is 2 1/4 thick at the starter. So now the starter reaches the ring gear. I had to call valair clutch in Mineral Wells TX. Where the clutch and flywheel came from and they verifyed the findings.
