Okay so I need some help here I've got a 2006 dodge ram 2500 diesel and the EGT's are running really high like 1500 degrees if I'm not careful now everyone says that running a truck that high is really bad because that much heat can change the shape of the piston okay so we went and put a magnaflow exhaust and an s&b cold air intake didn't change anything we called Gillette diesel and talked to them about the problem and we were told this "The 04.5-07 run hot stock. They had to retard the timing for emissions bull . When they did that they cast into the pistons a hollow toroidal (doughnut) shape for the oil to enter into the piston just under the crown to cool the crown of the piston. Turn the stupid chip alarm to 1425 and forget about the EGT's" now does this sound right? They keep telling us for our truck it's 100% normal for the truck to run that way. But yet we talk to anyone else and they tell us that's not even close to correct. Does anyone have any experience with this? Or how to fix the issue?

Are you wide open throttle with this or cruising? If youre cruising you have a major problem most likely with injectors or if your truck maybe has a tuner on it the tune is too hot

Okay my bad I forgot to mention that the only thing this truck does is pull our 30 ft camp trailer every weekend. so just cruising pulling the trailer down a straight flat road going at 65mph the truck will run around 1350-1400 degrees if I try to accelerate she jumps up higher than that. also trying to pull any hill at all even over just a small bridge cruising at 65 will jump right up to 1450+. And when we are accelerating from a stop light ect. We have to accelerate very slowly or it will be right around 1300+ degrees. Normal driving it will jump over 1200 degrees if you accelerate not wide open but probably a little over half throttle. When you are just cruising without a trailer it runs around 900-1100 degrees

Trucks bone stock minus exhaust and intake? Blowing a lot of smoke?

Yes truck is bone stock besides exhaust and intake. We do have an edge juice chip on the truck but we leave that off just use it to read the Gage's. And no there is no black smoke coming out of the exhaust. sometimes when you really get on the gas it blows a little bit out but you can barley see it

How an where are you reading the EGT's? What is your boost reading at the times you think it is too hot?

Completely disconnect and remove any connections the Edge has, especially to the MAP sensor. Then try things again. It is not unusual to see 1400-1500 degrees under heavy throttle and high load, not with the load you have though.

If you are reading the EGT's wit an electronic gauge you might want to consider an analog gauage to validate the readings.

Where is your temp reading coming from? EGT probe or from ECM?
What temps are you running without the trailer just cruising?
Any white smoke on start up or fuel in oil?
What RPMS are you at when you are seeing the high EGTs?

What he said...Beat me to it!!

we have an attitude monitor for the juice so it displays all the readings. And boost pressure is generally around 25-28 pounds and that's around 2200-2500 RPM. But your talking it's normal to see it spike that high right? This truck runs that high just cruising. And we aren't under much throttle I mean anything severe just enough throttle to reasonably accelerate and get up to speed

When you put in the juice and Attitude monitor, did you tap the EGT probe in the exhaust manifold?

I have heard if the tip of the probe is touching the side/top/bottom of the manifold it could read high, but i dont think it should be reading that high.

It seems like your boost numbers are high at 25-28 while at cruising speeds, normally my boost is at 6 when cruising at 70mph.

Could be a problem with your injectors or turbo...not an expert here but hopefully someone will chime in. I would pull the injectors and have them tested.

That sounds similar to my 06 boost numbers. I am thinking your EGT numbers are not reading correct for some reason. You do need to determine if the reading are correct or not, just in case they are.

The EGT probe you are using, did it come with the Edge J or not? Did you buy the complete Edge kit or was it on the truck when you bought it.

I'm wondering if the probe has the right thermocouple.
