yea thats what i was going to say. the only difference is how early of a year 03 u got. it might have the 47re instead of the 48re. I have the 47 in mine and i like it and it handles the power.

Since 1994 All Dodge Diesels Have had OverDrives, manual or automatic.

In 2007.5, the automatics became Double Overdriven,with 5th and 6th gear being an overdrive, the manuals still have one gear that's an O.D.

2004.5 is the cutoff for the 47RE auto, and the 48RE Auto. The 48re is a little stronger/durable. It is found in '04.5 until '07.4 Diesel/Autos.

Oh ya, that's right. I had forgotten about that. Also, you could get the manual 5 speed (nv4500)in the Non-ho, and the HO had the 6-speed (NV5600), until '04.5 then you could no longer get the 5-speed, or a non-HO. In 2006 the only manual trans available was the 6-speed (g56).

Also, the 3rd gens were limited to 3.73 gears, with a few available with 4.10's. 3.55 was not available. 3.23 gears are available in the Megacab, I think since '07.5 but I'm not 100% about that.

2001 was the last year that had the Center Axle Disconnect (CAD) on 4wd models. After that year, the front axle is always turning, and is only disconnected from the drivetrain by the transfer case.

In '01.5 until current Disc brakes are standard on the rear.

Pretty much, except for a few changes, '94 to '97 saw very little differences. A HP bump here and there, a Auto trans upgrade here and there. In '98, the Quad Cab came out, with a new interior, in '98.5 a "new engine" the VP44 injected 24V, nothing changed except a new trans in '00 (nv5600) for the highoutput (245hp).

Then in '03, the 3rd gens came out, all new design.

In '07.5 they got a "new" Engine and auto transmission.

In 2010 the frame/drivetrain will stay the same while they get a completely new cab/interior/sheetmetal. The axles, frame, ECM, etc. all stay the same. That's the one benefit the Dodge/Cummins has. They worked out all the 2010 bugs from there motor before it was time, so now while GM and Ford have to re-re-design, Cummins has a great motor... And the aftermarket is already all over it

Actually, in 1991.5, Dodge came out with a 4-speed automatic. It did not have a lock-up torque convertor, though. It does have a fourth gear lock-out switch on the dash board.

Sounds good but i've got an 03 so motor with a 48re. Dodge did alot of different things with these trucks and no matter how hard we try to figure it out there will always be something different.

Since Jan 91 all diesels in these trucks have had an OD, same ratio.

The 48RE went into production Jan 03 for all diesel powered Dodge trucks, HO and SO.

i drove an 05 with tow/haul that does not lock out overdrive...just reprograms it.

now i have an early 04 and my tow/haul is merely an overdrive lockout...no reprogramming
