hey guys, i test drove a 2004 ram that has 261000 miles on it. it has an auto tranny. while kicking the motor down i hear this hight pitched whistling noise. i guessing this is coming from the turbo. is there anything that i can look for to make sure this is not a bad purchase or is this a more serious problem?

also is there anything i should look out for with this kind of milage?

the dealer wants 10,900 for the truck, it is a quad cab with 4x4. is this an ok deal?

thanks and sorry for the noobish questions.

one more thing, the temp was 17 degrees, the truck started right up but i idled rough for a few minutes. no smoke from tail pipe. any thoughts?

My 07 has 193,xxx miles. I bought it about 2 months ago. It'll idle rough for a few in the cold weather. If its cold, the high idle should kick in(unless the 04's are different from the '07's in that manner. By kicking the motor down, if you mean downshifting, then yes, your probably hearing the turbo whistle. Check for blow by, by removing the oil cap while running at idle and flip it over and set it on the oil fill hole. If it blows off you've got blow by which may or may not be excessive depending on the amount of compression coming out. If the cap just sits there and dances around, there is no blow-by. Check trans fluid and smell for it being burnt or a dark red tint. Obviously check for leaks on the trans and engine, crawl under it and get dirty if you have to. Good luck!
