2003 or 2007?

I have a question where I could use some advice and/or opinions. I currently have a 2003 2500 Laramie quad cab long bed auto. I am considering trading it in for a 2007. The '07 I'm looking for is a 2500 5.9L Laramie Mega Cab with a manual transmission. Once I got the Mega Cab, I would take it down to Precision Bodyline in Utah and have a long bed conversion done.

I guess my question/dilema is, do I keep the 2003 or do I get the 2007? The 2003 is in my signature and is very mildly modified. My plans for either truck are to eventually get around 500+ hp, and be a daily driver.

Money isn't a huge concern, because the 2007 will have the same payment if not be a little less than the 2003.

Do I keep the 2003 and build it up? Do I get the 2007 and build it up? Or, do I finish paying off the 2003, save up, and pay cash for the 2007?

How easy is it to get somewhat big horsepower with a manual transmission?

Sorry, I know this isn't a very important question. I'm just curious and looking for some opinions. What would you all do? :confused013:

Thanks!

If you plan on making significant hp gains, the clutch, flywheel and hydraulics will need to be upgraded first. Mine started slipping with just a programer at only 5k miles making it impossible to shift due to pump-up on the slave

There are some improvements through out the years... and some new weaknesses... I'd say it comes down to body style, which you like better... If it were me I would go for the 07... but I'm a little bias, sice I have and 07

Get the 2007, you will love the Mega Cab and will most likely never want anything else after that. As for making it a long bed, try it out for a while as it is.

Yeah, I'll probably try it out as is for a while until the funds are available.

How is the Laramie interior in the '07? Are the seats pretty comfortable? I heard somewhere that the '06 seats were not as comfortble as they were in '05, so I wasn't sure if that is the same situation with the '07.

Is it more than just upgrading the clutch in order to handle the higher hp?

Thanks for the replies!

I think the seats in the 06 and up are terribly uncomfortable in cloth, leather is a different story though. they went to yes essentials on the cloth and i think they are a lot stiffer. as for the clutch i would just get a good strong valair or southbend clutch, flywheel and do the hydro. upgrade and you should be in great shape.

the laramie seats are better than cloth, but they all suck :(

but get the Mega Cab... you'll love it and won't want anything else.

I've had a bunch of these trucks... I've bought four within the last year... every truck I've had I bought because I got a good deal on them, but I always was wanting something a little different.

with my MegaCab, I don't find myself wanting anything different. the ONLY thing I want different is the front seats! :(

I say pay off the 03 and then get a Mega. The 03 gets alot better mileage than my 07, same Smarty settings and everything. Manual is better than auto IMO, and the cluthc and hydros are alot less than a built auto. FYI, my stock trans lasted longer than my built one, and that was around 500 to the tires...

I have a bad back, and the stiffer seats in my 07 are actually much better than the softer seats in the older trucks. I have nothing bad to say about either truck, only good (minus, of course, the auto)
