what's the difference between the 2003 and 2004 fan clutch.
I've found a new 2003 for $395 or a new 2004 for $219.

Cant imagine there would be much differance. If they are at the same shop take them both out of the box and compare.

The 2004 will bolt on to the 2003 cummins. I was wondering if there is a difference in the sensors.
(there's a couple of part numbers)

The 2003 and 2004 clutches are different

hey let me know how that went....mine is going out as well, i changed one a chevy and it was no fun at all

the clutch them self are easy to change out just take the shroud loose and pull it up with the fan

I talked to a local dealer, I was told that some 04s are designated as next generation motors and depending on the vin# some 03 and 04 fan clutches are the same.
That's the reason for 2 part numbers.
Unfortunately mine uses the $426 part.

How do you test for wear. Mine seems to make a slight vibrating sound at idle. It was supposed to be replaced as new after my wreck last summer but Im thinking it isnt right.

My check engine light came on . I cycled the ignition for codes and got the low fan speed code.

Fan speed will not set a check engine light on. You might want to see if there are any other codes in it.
