All the research and videos I saw they didn't have this axle nut. I'm replacing the brakes and rotors.
Auto part Wheel Bearing Flange Rim

Is this dodge specific or can I get this at the parts store. What size/type is it.

I ran into the same problem with a Ford 3500 w/Dana 80 (pretty sure). Got the socket at O'Reilly's. No size stamped on the side (threw away the package. Had W83008 stamped on the socket, Performance Tool brand. Took a picture and selected one that matched. Worked great. Sorry I can't be more detailed. I'll post a pic in a minute.

Tried looking at any part stores yet? They had several different types at O'Reilly's. Looks like it takes the same category of socket, just different pattern.
I cant remember the exact size but yes it is a special socket. it has rounded edges like this one Sears.com
This might be the exact socket you need but verify size first.
I had to borrow one when i did my axle seal awhile back.
I just got the right one. Rounded edge that napa had 2 9/16.
Thanks guys,
Corey

Here's a better photo with the nut off for those that don't know what it looks like.

I am doing brakes because I noticed the driver rear is all scratched on the inside. Got all the wheels off and brakes are all mostly new but apparently a rock or some foreign matter got behind the brake pad and destroyed the rotor and brake pad. I'm only gonna do both rears since I have it apart and then just flush the brake system. I've owned the truck about six months and was very well taken care of.

I'm going to guess this is the same size on the 2003 DRW, yes?
02? i don't get it, mine just slipped off and right back on, no need to take axle out. take caliper and bracket off trap with BFH then it was off. i could have done the E-brake as well but didn't have the time.
please explain why you had to take the axle out?..??

Is your truck a dually? On my dually there's no way to take the rotor off without removing the axle.
Mine is not, my bad.
The nut looks just like the one on my 2000 dually. I ended up getting new lock nut and socket from quad4x4 website. The socket is kinda expensive but makes the job a piece of cake!
$17 socket at Napa saved the day haha.

You should not have to do this, that is an image of how the first gen dodges come apart, where the rear axle has to be removed, 94 an newer have a way better system.

Not sure what you're talking about because I had to remove the axle nut on my 2001 3500 dually to remove the rear rotors. I think all of you are making this thread confusing because you're not signifying if you have a SRW or DRW.
