Ok so here I go. I just picked up a mint 2002 24v cummins 6 speed with 87000kms. It is bone stock. Looking to do a few upgrades and would like to hear some input of what to do. Maybe in a order of what to do first and go from there. Knowing the fuel problems I installed a set of ev2 gauges and have found out my lift pump is keeping up but on its way out so first order of business will be to get a new lift pump. So first question would be fass or airdog? Then going from there I was wondering what you guys would recommend next. I am not looking for insane power more so looking for a reliable truck with better mileage and maybe a little bump in the performance. Wondering for intake ats or banks? Should I go with the whole banks kit or no? Also any recommendations on exhaust brakes? I have heard with the banks air filter upgrade the exhaust brake won't work. Also smarty or banks or edge keeping in mind I don't need to be at 600 horse. Thanks for any info look forward to hearing from you. I am new to the 2nd gens. But love my first gens but couldn't pass up this truck.

Gauges were a good start and anybody on here is going to say FASS i own a airdog but it was purchased 4 years ago and Airdog quality has disappeared. As for air intake just get a BHAF itll do the same thing as any air intake on the market. People will argue that air intake horns arent necessary until making big horsepower but id say its up to you. I personally have an edge but i would do a little research and see what chip is best for what your using your pickup for.Welcome to the forum and good choice on the 2nd gen1

1. FASS 150 Platinum
2. edge jwa, quadzilla, edge comp, or tst chip.
3. 4" exhaust, do this first so drive pressures arent overly high on the turbo...
4. BHAF this will definately help things...
5. 50-125 hp injectors.
6. better clutch to hold it all in place
7. turbo to breath better
8. bigger still injecters to spool new turbo
9. bigger turbo to keep the smoke down,
10. repeat 8 and 9

DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON INTAKE stock intake flows more then enough for anything but super rediculous high horsepower numbers.

realistic build, define what you are going to use the truck for and we can help you pick the best parts to get there.

start with a quality lift pump and good set of gauges, fuel pressure, egt, boost, and go from there....

exhaust brakes limit turbo options and horsepower levels. and unless your pulling all the time, arent really needed.

read the stickies, they will help you a lot.

Thanks for the info. I am mainly looking to keep it as a reliable daily driver. Would like to get a little more power but also gain some mpg. I will be doing some towing of a trailer for work in near future but nothing too crazy maybe a 8000 lb trailer or so. Basically just want to have a truck I would feel comfortable pulling anything with and also not too much that I don't want to drive it to go to the store. Haha

One thing missing...

GAUGES! I know Edge Juice and Quadzilla have gauges but still make sure to have gauges first thing... Because Ede Comp and TST are without.

Remember drive pressure is measured before the turbo and exhaust is after the turbo. So 4" inch exhaust isn't going to change back pressure but exhaust housing of the turbo will. 4" is plenty big for most mild builds.

Ok thanks for the info. What would be the top recommendation for electronics. Quadzilla smarty edge juice with attitude? Also glad to hear from mopar man I have seen you all over the Internet and one thing was for the high idle. Just wondering if you could tell me how that kit has been working. Also when you turn it on does it run for so long then kick out or is it a constant high idle till manually switched.

Hey just ordered my fass 150g today. Also I have decided to wait till the smarty touch screen comes out. I just found out they are to be released November so think I will be trying that out. Start there for now and continue on.

So far I love my set up in my sig. Just put the injectors and fass in last weekend and so far everything is what I wanted.

The Edge comp box is sweet to, as blaze10 said the on the fly adjustability is great, also the sub levels to control low boost fueling is awesome.

Gunna need a clutch soon so thats my next step

Personally...

I would opt for Edge Comp. Only 8 wires to deal with nothing to interfere with the performance of the box. Just a CANBUS, MAP sensor, power and wire tap.

But Edge Juice is just the same as Edge Comp software wise but there is $500 hike for just the fancy touch screen. The alarm and limits can degrade performance if used wrong and typically I tell people to disable them. So basically you have $500 dollars fancy gauge panel.

You can do gauge set for much less say $350. Then if you find the toys in ISSPro you can still have your alarms with the ISSPro programmable EV2's gauges.

As for the high idle kit the only mode that hold high idle forever is 6 cylinder but 3 cylinder will warm up and shut down at 170*F coolant temp.

But hey this is my opinions...

LET US KNOW WHAT THAT SMARTY IS LIKE!! i personally dont know if its worth the money differance, unless they can get a serious amount more horsepower out of it then the edge jwa, comp, or quad....
My buddy had a smarty and we put it on my truck before I had the edge comp. I noticed a way bigger difference with the edge over the smarty. Dunno if its because the edge is hard wired in and the smarty just flashes the computer but definitely a bigger power and difference with the edge. Now we have to stack em and see what its like
