2001 dodge ram 3500 hood safety latch

So I was going down the road today after checking oil etc and my hood flew open my question is are these truck not equipped with a safety latch that you should have to press to lift the hood up?

yes once you pop your hood from inside you should have to push a bar up thats at the bottom of the grill in the middle
