I am looking at picking up a 2001 2500 with a few things done to it.

This wouldn’t be my first 2nd gen, but there are a couple things done to it that I am not 100% certain about so I thought I’d ask here.

First off, it’s a 4 hour drive to go look at the truck so I don’t know more than the ad says yet. It has about 215K miles with the NV5600. It’s an extended cab long bed as well.

The first thing I’m not certain about is the P pump conversion. I know they are pretty popular, but how can I know that it was done right or running like it should when I go look at it?

The next thing, and really the biggest thing I’m concerned about, is that the front axle was swapped for a high pinion D60 out of an F350. I’m not sure what year, but it appears to be a ball joint axle. It has also been swapped over to leaf springs. Does anybody have any idea why someone would do this or the pros and cons of doing this? I know the dodge steering isn’t known for being the best, but is this actually an upgrade or will it come back to bite me?

Last question is about the block. The ad says it’s a 55 cast block, and I’ll go verify myself, but was there a chance of the 01’s coming with the 53 block? Miles are up there anyway, so even if it did turn out to be a 53, I’m guessing I’m past the point of cracking anyway.

I’m quite excited to even be thinking about getting back into another 2nd gen so any help would be appreciated.

mileage doesnt matter when a 53 cracks....torque and situation does. ....ANYWAY.

was it originally a 2wd truck ? or possibly the axle was a 90's era f350. just mount leafs and roll.
