HI
Hoping someone can explain how the ABS system on my truck works in the rear? I just installed new drums, shoes and all hardware and saw nothing that indicates any ABS components. I have the original factory printout which shows the vehicle coming with "4-Wheel Anti-Lock Brakes." Could it be that the ABS is monitoring off the top of the differential case where I see a device planted with wires coming out of it? Is it a Hall Effect sensor setup?
I would like to know how this system works.
Thank you,
Mr. Labans

It appears so, I wasn't sure of this myself so I had to take a look at the service manual.

The rear wheel anti-lock (RWAL) brake speed sensor
is attached to the top, forward exterior of the differential
housing. A seal is located between the
sensor and the wire harness connector. The seal must
be in place when the wire connector is connected to
the sensor. The RWAL brake exciter ring is press-fitted
onto the differential case against the ring gear
flange.
That is the wheel speed sensor on top axle counting wheel rotation speed. How the brakes work I do not know but I am pretty sure that one does not count wheel rotations separately for the breaks.

That is a switch that senses the amount of weight in the box of the truck, as weight increases the lever goes down giving more rear brake bias. I don't know much about it as I have a 02 with rear disc brakes without this sensor.
