Hi all, very new to diesels. When shutting down sometimes here a screech at the end. Normal sound? 05 2500 slt quad shorty 4x4 5.9 CTD 39k miles.

Just the belt chiping when the motor stops spinnin. Most of them doit.

Infamous Cummins chirp. Enjoy the chirp..luv the chirp, the chirp is harmless.

I think the dealer has an alternator pulley replacement that freewheels a little to elimainate the chirp. or maybe a goodyear gatorback belt I heard it helps. Save your money for a mod.

The goodyear gator back will eliminate this churp but it is harmless.

as its been said its just the nature of the beast..the momentum causes the belts to slip over the pullies when the motor stops

The noise dosn't bother me as long as I know now that it is normal. I am sure I will have other questions. Thanks again!

i think the only time i heard the "CHIRP" is in the summer when runnin the a/c............i thought it was just the compressor......IDK
