So I bought my 2003 with 135k miles. Right away I noticed the transmission was not OEM.
I got a hold of the previous owner because it was acting up and found he put a suncoast transmission in at about 90k.
At 139k and 2 weeks after having a goofy 4-5 shift ended up going out fully having to get towed home. We put a Jasper transmission in it with a shift kit and triple disk torque converter.
Needless to say, while driving from Minnesota to Colorado...it went again, this time it had 19k miles on it. Jasper replaced it no questions asked.
Now 2 weeks and 3700 miles later...I have no 1st or 2nd. I called Jasper, and they will be putting another one in under warranty again but this is getting old and the down time is getting expensive. I also asked what went wrong on the last one and the bearing on the input shaft failed.
The goofy 4-5 shift has followed all 3 transmissions and started after I had the system flushed at a local shop. So obviously its not the transmission...my buddy who is a mechanic and very good with diesels can't figure it out. He put a Jasper in another Cummins and the customer has the same issue now.
Any ideas?? I've thought about pulling the cooler line and drilling out the check ball. When we put in the transmission at 139k we put a new cooler in and plan to put another one in along with the one on the side of the block.
