I am looking at putting a 12valve into my humvee project that i have and need some advice. I have found quite a few engines with the rotary pump for sale and not many with the in-line. Can decent power be made with the rotary or should i hold out and keep looking for an in-line pump motor. I have found a couple of nice engines for around 1500.00-2000.00 that are all the rotary pump. Most of them have over 200 thousand on them. Should i worry about the mileage or using that pump? Not a great selection up here in Wa st.

Any advice would be great from the guys who know the engines as i am new to the 12valve and only know what i have read so far.

Thanks

Todd

If the engine wasn't abused, I wouldn't worry about 200+ thousand miles at all.

To get info on the rotary pumps do some reading in the 1st gen forum.

How much HP are you wanting? A VE pump can put out about 250 - 300 HP, the main thing you have to worry about is having a transmission that will hold up to the increased HP.

like mentioned, it all depends on your power goals

The VE pump (rotary pump found in dodge apps) is more suited to a sub 300hp engine. their are other rotary pumps that were used on these also.

while the inline (depending on the pump model) can support ~400-500hp with very little work to the pump itself

If you use the VE pump engine you'll need the 2nd Gen adapter, starter, and flywheel for your 47RH.

I was just going to ask about that. Thanks again for the input. Im not looking for 500hp. I just want enough to have fun with and not get beat by a kid on a ten speed when i am going over the passes here in WA. Seems like most of the 5.9's i have found are in the mid west or east coast. The ones in WA everyone wants 4-5grand for them and i cant make that happen lol.

You can gain alot of power with the free mods. If your going to go with the 1st gen VE engine I can move you to the 1st gen section.
