My stock return line just dumps into the tank but the line from the FASS drops into the basket. The only potential problem is fuel "frothing" and not being able to be drawn into the straw. Ive never had this problem and can run 50+ miles after the light comes on. The FASS should pull the air outta the fuel so no problems there either.
