1/4 problems with Draw Straw V?

1724 Views 15 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  john5mt
I have a draw straw V and was hoping this would eliminate the possibility of 1/4 tank problems.

I thought i read somewhere that having the return lines shoot into the canister was a bad thing (which of course i did )

Any other ideas why i would have 1/4 tank issues?

Most likely the sender is not reading correctly. Very common.

We have not had any issues with the DSV.

what happens is when i bump the truck around on a railroad track or something it will alert me at 4psi for a second and then jump back up to normal psi.
Your signature says that you are using an AirDog 150, are you returning both the factory return and AirDog return to the basket?
I have both the VP and the Airdog return going into the basket with a Vulcan drawstraw. I will report how low I can get as I just installed the airdog and got it running last night.

Why is having the return into the basket a bad idea, I thought it was a good idea and Airdog said any air that might be in the return fuel not be an issue.

Yes i am :banghead:
would haveing both return lines be the problem?
That's what i am wondering...though the instructions say to put them there...i have read some people have had this problem when they did it that way.
My stock return line just dumps into the tank but the line from the FASS drops into the basket. The only potential problem is fuel "frothing" and not being able to be drawn into the straw. Ive never had this problem and can run 50+ miles after the light comes on. The FASS should pull the air outta the fuel so no problems there either.

No running both return lines would be the correct way to do it. This prevents the AirDog from leaving the basket dry. As Loco Offroad said fuel frothing could be a concern, but it certainly sounds like your sender is inaccurate.
Both returns must be routed back into the bucket. Otherwise, you will draw all the fuel out of the bucket at any level lower than the lower cuff on the module. We have proven that in testing.

Frothing is not a concern. I have been getting calls lately that someone at Pureflow says that will happen.

I am here to tell you that it does not happen and if it did, so what?

Let me ask the fundamental question here. At the lowest tank levels when you are on the last burnable gallon of fuel searching for a station on the open hiway with a trailer in tow, cranky wife int he right seat and another "dependent" in the back seat wanting something to eat......

Would you prefer fuel with air on top of it, or no fuel? :hehe:

And the froth is like the foam on your morning drink, it stays on top and this phenomenon occurs even in stock tanks. Further, it occurs with no returning fuel, but simple sloshing of the tank.

Have you ruled out the sending unit? How much fuel (gal) does it take to fill up when you are "empty" (i.e., 1/4 tank)?

- djb
30 gallons (35 gal tank)

i havent ruled out the sender thats why i need to look for one
when you put the sender back in did you line up the arrows?? there is an arrow on the threaded cap and an arrow on the tank that you must line up in order to get a accurate reading
hmm nope defintley didnt do that...but my light is turning on sooner than it used to not later so i am positive i still have fuel. I think i need to change my fp sensor for my edge att. Cuz it is starting to get erratic and act like it needs a new fuel filter again (which i just changed last tank of fuel).
