I have had the engine light come on 3 times in my 09 Ram. It now has 58,000 or so miles on it and the DPF is shot. The last two times, the tech said it was some EGR thing that was dirty. I had a message that said "DPF full" the last two times. No message since, only check engine light. Truck is stock. Now The DPF is no good.
My father in law is service manager and says he can get me a new DPF. That is the only thing that is Fed legal. Private shops may put in a straight pipe and delete it, and then get a programmer.
My last truck was a Duramax with a straight pipe, and had no problems.

Probably preaching to the choir here, but PLEASE get that EPA BS OFF YOUR TRUCK ASAP!

I just put tires, brakes, rotors on this truck. Now it needs a DPF and something for the floor heat. NO heat on the floor in the truck. Some $600 to fix.

I love the truck, want to keep it, and not doggin on Dodge, but WTF. This is pretty much a new truck still. Haven't had this much trouble since we started working on our '00 Ford F550. Damn these newer vehicles require the work.

So, question for you all. Get a new DPF (reasonable cost under $1000) or delete it and make it not EPA legal? No tests are done here.

If there are no emission testing in your state then why bother with a another dpf? Most DPF filter last 100-150 k miles seems like yours went out fast. I would by a delete pipe and egr delete all for under $400 for hardware you still need a tune like EFI since it is cheaper. And with that you would have a truck that could outlast the 7.3 powerstroke easy.

The DPF on my pickup "cracked". The tech said it happens so often. I'm still in lingo. Tech says, if you can live with the bit of smoke coming out of exhaust and maybe a CEL, go with it.
Personally I don't care about a little black smoke. That is what Diesels do. That is why they were made.

Thank You very much for the responses.
