'08 Cummins?

I was planning on waiting for the "baby cummins" to come out in 2010, but the incentives are persuading me to buy an '08. I am very worried that the emissions stuff such as the dpf and egr will cause major problems. I know you can delete these two. But, is it legal to delete those two? I live in Louisiana. Do they check for that kind of stuff? I wish they made a dpf replacement to look like the real thing so they wouldn't know by just looking under? Can I purchase a dpf delete that just gets rid of the original dpf and uses the rest of the truck's stock exhaust? I will need a fooler box also. But is there a fooler box for the egr delete yet? Yes, I have spent some time reading all the posts that I could find that deals with egr and dpf delete. Any help is appreciated!

Bluntly, NO but do it anyway

I live in Louisiana. Do they check for that kind of stuff? check your states emissions/inspection laws. Here in CT, any vehicle with a GVW GT 10,000lbs is not subject to emissions testing. we also have no annual inspections except for Class 6,7 and 8 vehicles in other words, buy the 3500

I wish they made a dpf replacement to look like the real thing so they wouldn't know by just looking under? there is a rumor that someone is working on such a piece

Can I purchase a dpf delete that just gets rid of the original dpf and uses the rest of the truck's stock exhaust? yes I am waiting on the new downpipe and dpf delete pipe from there into the factory exhaust

I will need a fooler box also. correct

Also, the "baby" Cummins in 2010 will have just as much emissions stuff on it. If you are truly worried about it, you may want to purchase a used diesel.
Thanks for the info John Banks. I am wondering if any fellow Louisianian knows about the law concerning emission checks. I saw badp sells kits for dpf deletes. But, what is the mininum I would need to take out the dpf and fool the sensors? To change it out is there any cutting?
i live in louisiana as well and you can see all the things ive done to my 08 cummins. it runs great and i get 21-23 mpg. i would worry about getting in trouble for removing the dpf in louisiana. what part of la do you live in?
I live near Lafayette. Did you have to cut the old dpf to delete it? Explain how to remove the old dpf and add the replacement.
it's a bolt-on job. you need a straight pipe that replaces the piece of exhaust that houses the DPF and a fooler box. You want to put a replacement 4" downpipe on as well (also bolt-on, no welding involved). It will take you 3-4 hours if you know that righty is in fact tighty. the minimum you will need to delete the DPF is ~$1050 from BADP. It includes the 4" delete pipe, the 4" downpipe, and the code-free fooler box. For another $60 you can get the EGR delete plates from K2 Diesel Performance here on this forum. Those will throw a CEL and you can choose to either ignore it until a code-free EGR delete is released or buy an Edge Juice w/Attitude ($800) or Bully Dog PMT ($1000) to clear the codes.
Dont forget the H&S Delete pipe and downpipe with foolerbox for half the price!

Isn't this wonderful - you have to spend 50 grand on a friggen truck then dump 3 grand more + labor on crap just so you can drive it and not have to sit at the dealer dealing with idiots WTF is wrong with this picture?
Thanks bronco! It seems as though the dpf and egr delete puts new life into the 6.7L. I'm assuming both deletes can be reversed. I was looking at edge products and found the edge Insight. It simply plugs in with no hp or torque increase potential. Would this cheaper Insight erase the soft codes just as attitude with juice? Thanks fellas! Where do you find H&S dpf delete on the internet to order? I've found BADP dpf delte and plates for egr.

No arguments there but all three manufactures are forced to meet the standards by 2010. Not only will dodge be having this headache.:thumbsup

Here is a link to the PDI, which is the distributor for H&S. However, i no longer see the H&S kits listed on their website. You might want to give them a call and figure out what the deal is if you are interested in an H&S kit: Performance Diesel Inc - 07.5 Cummins 6.7L

NOTE: the H&S modules currently are not code-free. they still throw a soft code like the Gen 1 BADP kits do. The price of $1050 i quoted in the above post is for the Gen 2 code free BADP kit. Their Gen 1 kit is somewhere in the $900 range whereas the H&S Gen 1 kit is around $700 if i remember correctly.

Both the DPF and EGR deletes can be reversed in about the same amount of time it took to install it all. It's all plug-n-play.

Hey John
What's stopping us from gutting them? Have you , by chance, seen the inside of one? I'm wondering if it can be done.

I'm not due until 2011 for inspection, I'll put it back on then. Planning on flanging the muffler end so it will be just a bolt in. But then again, I am in the process of Dodge buying back my truck so it may actually be 2013.

And what's this about a 3500 being exempt?
Will the edge Insight remove soft codes just at the edge attitude with juice?

What's wrong with the picture? Our government is involved, and in their infinite wisdom they decided that reducing smog is more important than preventing $5 a gallon diesel or the complete colapse of the US economy...

I have not seen one gutted, but for the cost of one, I think i'd just take it off and make it a mantle piece with some nice down lighting. I'm sure it can be done though.

And what's this about a 3500 being exempt? check your states dmv laws, but like I said here in CT, no emissions testing or annual inspections for a 3500 (GVW GT 10,000lbs)
^I agree...this is a pretty expensive part to be destroying...and you might have to put it back on one day...maybe just for resale.
ON the 2009 models might be a whole new beast for deleting, They are doing some major changes in the eletronics/computers on the trucks. These kits might work just fine on them or it might have to be a whole new programming issue again
Will the edge Insight remove soft codes just at the edge attitude with juice?
The insight has the ability to read and clear codes but it cannot be programmed to automatically clear codes before startup like the Juice w/Attitude and PMT can.
