I have about 40,000 miles on my '06. Yesterday I noticed that the 2 vents on the passenger side wasn't putting out very cold air. The 2 vents on the drivers side was cold as ever. I tried switching to recirculate and back to outside air, no change. I turned it off for a couple minutes and then turned it back on and all was good. Today I went to town and same problem. I tied turning it off a couple times same as yesterday and no change. Has anyone experienced this problem? I would just simply take it in for warranty work, but my warranty went out about 4,000 miles bake.:thud::$:

Absolutely, my air,def,heat started whistling when I turned it on. At the same time it was not putting out the amount of air that it used to. You could hear and feel the difference. It happened before but quickly and I couldn't catch it. I got lucky and caught it again at 35851 miles. The mechanic told me it was the gate that directs the air to different locations is bad from the factory. He said they replaced so many that they keep the parts in stock. A 2 hour fix. I would go to the dealer and explain and tell him that you know that this is a factory defect. If the dealer is reputable, they should fix it under warranty. Otherwise I would report them to DC. having the exact same issue with my 04.5 - lemme know what you find out. i searched on the site here, but didnt find anything concrete.

Not exactly what I am experiencing. Sounds exactly like what Elephantrider is experiencing. May be someone else can chime in that has found the solution to this. Thanks.

This gate controls the flow of conditioned air to the vents. If it is not functioning properly it will for sure send cold air one way and not so cold air the other. But have it your way!!!

My 06' had a similar problem last year, and it was exactly as described by elephantrider, only cold on driver's side. l took it to the dealer under warranty and they said that the system had a slow leak. Tightened some 'fittings' recharged with a dye additive and sent me on my way. I went back in a month after running the A/C and there were no leaks detected, problem was solved for me.

im going to the dealer next week for them to look at the gate or door as well as take a look see at the system itself. hopefully its just low and needs recharging, but usually the a/c system only needs recharging if there is a leak. not sure how much its going to cost to replace whatever dorr thingy that it is.

if you have a difference of temp on drivers and passengers side you have a low freon charge. If you have lack of air out of the vents, the 06s they are having a problem of busted recirculation doors. Hope this helps.

thanks ramtech - can you explain a little more about the " door " in question ?
what the hell is it actually and where is it located. is it cost effective to get if repaired ?

also, are the vents being driven from two seperate banks of blowers ? is there TWO fans providing air over the a/c grid supplying the vents on drivers side and passenger side apart ? i dont see how it can blow two diffferent temps that way unless this is the case.. ?

i alwasy thought that it was one big air header under the dash supplying all four vents at once.

air flow issues and driver only cold

My 06' had a similar problem last year, and it was exactly as described by elephantrider, only cold on driver's side. l took it to the dealer under warranty and they said that the system had a slow leak. Just got my 03 back from the Dodge Dealer in Houston today. I was having the same issue: Cold on driver's side, ambient temp on the pass 3 vents. Once I got on the highway and drove for a while and noticed I was sweating, I had to stop in and hit the Dealership. Well the tech told me that my system was low on R-134a and that it usually cuts out on the pass side first for some reason. They charged it for free and I'll tell you why in a min.

I also complained that I cannot switch my air to anything but top vents (no defrost or floor) and I already knew that it was either the flow gate inside the dash or the motor behind the cup holder. The reason I pulled the truck right back was because they wanted $760 to charge the system with dye to find the leak (doesn't fix the problem, simply to find the problem in a few months of running a/c) and to change out that air flow gate. Which is KNOWN to be a HUGE problem with these trucks. Wouldn't it become a recall if almost every one of these trucks has this door break on them?

Well They had already charged the a/c to try and find the leak, and before they could do it again with dye I told them they're not getting my money for that stupid repair. I've read on it myself on these forums and it's very involved but I can get a little involved for 700 bucks.

Possible that the air flow direction gate is malfunctioning which is a huge problem in these trucks. If you haven't replaced it yet... you will

Are you having any trouble directing the air flow between defrost, vents and floor? That's what happened to my truck. Vibrated horribly and made lots of noise, and with reduced airflow. So I took the blower off to find pieces of the plastic gate that directs the air flow between these areas when you turn the control knob. These trucks are notorious for this problem. You need to take it to them and have them switch out that flap in there it sounds like to me... 600 dollars for me... FREE for you :thumbsup
