I have an '05, 6spd, 4x4

When the problem started, I was running and Diablo Performance Tune and a Quad boost fooler.

I was driving it pretty hard (40+ psi boost) and something sounded like a compressed air line blowing off. Now it will only build about 5 to 7 psi boost. The truck is running fine and has no codes.

My question is....if the wastegate where stuck open, would a code be present. Has anyone else had a similar problem.

Any help appreciated.

check all the hoses from the intake to turbo tointercooler to intake horn. could have blown a boot off. i did it on my '99, and on my 6.7. just start looking for a blown boot or clamp. hopefully it'll be something of that nature

Sounds like you blew and intercooler boot. The stock clamps can not hold a ton of boost pressure so check them out and if you want you can replace the intercooler boots with higher psi ones and better clamps :thumbsup

Check the stored data you may find a very hi psi spike in the rail.

All the hoses are intact. The intercooler ends seem to be intact. There are no codes permanent or temporary. And my boost numbers in the original post were wrong. I'm lucky if it is making 2 psi.

Something in there is spinning and it sounds like the turbo turbine. It speeds up with exhaust flow.

It almost sounds like the waste gate is working. I don't hear the turbine spinning when i'm sitting still, but when i take off, i hear it. The thing is, I can't tell if what I'm hearing is air rushing, or a bad bearing in the turbo.

mine just stopped building boost one day but it sent a 299 code and it was sumething like low turbo boost. figured it has something to do with the signal in the boost fooler because once i reset the code it ran perfect

The plastic tanks do not crack! the clamp that holds the tank on gives up,the passenger side is where you will see it.The tank separates from the core when it fails.

windex is your friend... spray the piss out of the truck and rev it up, while you wont build much boost w/out a load you should see enough air to make bubbles at the higher rpms.

Or you can pop the hood and stand there while someone else shuts off the truck. If there is a leak you should be able the hear air releasing from somewhere other than back out thru the turbo.

Hi,

For what its worth, I have had a turbo car where the rubber boots sprung a leak, but not problem till boost, then it leaked. I ended up squeezing all teh boots till I found one that was soft and took it out and looked at it very closely till I found the hole. Hope this helps.

God bless...

pyro should have no effect, its on the exhaust.. .but the tubing connector for the boost gauge may do it.

saw this same thing happen to an 05 on the dyno. . .intercooler popped. the plastic ends cannot hold up like the metal ones and they gave way.

do what john said. . .you can also mix in a little soap so the bubbles stay. I garuntee you will see bubbles when you rev the engine.

I had it happen on my 2000 Dually. I was pulling a hill at about 75 with an enclosed snowmobile trailer on the back. It was running about 40 psi of boost and the boot that attaches to the turbo side of the intercooler blew off. It about scared the crap out of me. Lot's of noise and then no boost. I couldn't do much more than 50 on flat ground after that. It was a 10 minute fix at the next exit.
