Have a couple 05 model 5.9 diesel powered dodges that I have been having all kinds of hell with in the past year or so.

First problems started on truck #1 a year or so ago. Had drive-ability problems which quickly turned into a slight knock and fuel in the crankcase..parked it, sent out injectors to get tested.. minus 30 bucks a piece to test them and 2 were bad. Checked compression and had a bum cylinder. Went ahead and bought two new injectors from Dodge and a used motor from a junk yard since I didn't have time to build this motor. Put new used motor in along with the set of 4 I had tested plus the two new ones. Good to go until this afternoon. Cruising along and it started blowing tons of oil out the breather pipe and lost oil pressure. PUlled injectors and will get tested monday.

Truck #2 about 6 months ago had oil dilluted with fuel dump out the breather going down the road like truck 1 today. Had 6 injectors tested, 1 was cracked and 2 were leaking down. Bought a entire new set of injectors from the dodge house. 2 months ago the exact same thing happened this time an injector took out a cylinder. Parked it, still parked and joined by truck #1

Whats the deal with 05's and these injectors???? Where can I buy a good set of injectors?????

Stock. I buy fuel just wherever, walmart usually, sinclair shell im not picky

How often are you maintaining the filter? Bad filtration kills injectors like its going out of style

Stock filtration is only 10 micron. Bosch only recommends 2 micron so you really need to install a better fuel filtration system on your trucks not only because Bosch recommends it but it sounds like the fuel your buying is junk.

Water will also kill them. Do you ever get water out of the separators?

I may not be very bright, but I just can't figure how bad fuel can make an injector body crack open. I don't know how bad the fuel is, I just fill up wherever there is a diesel pump I drive em in a big city and don't necessarily fill up at any one location

I have no problems with my 2008 gmc duramax btw and I fill up just as randomly as I do with the one tons

The LBZ that LMM you have and I imagine the LML's too all use a better filter than what we do. And to clarify a point made earlier I believe Bosch wanted 5 micron filtration not 2. But that's neither here nor there. Still kinda weird you have issues with all of them. At a minimum I would put something like a 2 micron racor to get the filter extra filter and water separation. One more layer of protection should keep those injectors happy. Also you can look into some sort of additive. I only partially believe in them, but I still use them from time to time. Easiest first step is to switch to Baldwin PF7977 which the general consensus says is the best filter.

Also do you avoid the stations when the tanker is there delivering diesel?

if the engine has ever had a RP increasing box on it or the RP sensor is defective and reading low, both will cause high RPs, injector body killers plus increased abrasion wear

both problems exacerbated by high engine loads towing loads with resulting higher RP duty cycle.

Bosch Engineering produced an internal white paper on fuel filtration recommendations, they recommended a max. particle size of 3 micron. There is a pirated copy floating around on the internet cloud out there. Dodge refused to follow the inj. manuf. filtration specs. we pay the price.
by the time the injectors started failing in mass, Daimler AG was already looking for a buyer to get out of it's Chrysler financial nightmare. Cerberus was not a problem solver, they were only interested in milking Chrysler out, they took the cash and Cut and Ran.

I'd like to see that recommendation. Wonder if someone could get the real deal from Bosch? It's probably a can of worms they'd rather not open by sharing that info. Customer relationship and all that. The end user gets screwed on that deal.

What makes you think the injector bodies are cracking? Under stock power levels, a sensor failure aside, cracking the bodies is rare. Mor eoften than not it is wearing the pintle seat and the injector is never sealing. That sis a constant stream of fuel into the cylinder which melts the piston and fills the crank with diesel.

Your fueling habits are suspect. NEVER fuel at Walmart of grocery store, thats a secondary line to them and you will always get 2nd rate fuel.

Either go fuel at truck stop at the truck pumps or find out where the local sheriff and EMS units fill their trucks and patronize that station. Those guys will generally know who has water and dirty fuel problems.

If you want to run suspect fuel you need to add better filters and water seperators than the OE. The OE filkter has some of the best water seperation capabilties there are but the 7-10 micron is not good enough to stop injector wear. You need a 2 micron absolute just in front of the CP-3 to be safe. While your at it, a steady diet of 2 stroke or 10wt non-detergent oil mixe dwith Power Service will do a lot to keep your injection system healthy.

Its not the 05 injectors, its the fuel that is the problem. I have over 180k on an 05 with ZERO injector, mileage, start, run, etc, problems. I fuel at high volume stations where EMS and law enforcement does, or truck stops frequently on the truck pumps, and use the oil\PS mixture.

My cousin bought an 05 Durasnack at the same time I bought my Dodge. I had 40k and he had 5k a year later and he was stranded for a week waiting for an injector replacement. He has had multiple issues with injectors before 60k. Garbage in, garbage out. Keep feeding the Dmax that way and it will come back to bite you.

Toilet paper would probably do a better job filtering than stock filter. :hehe:
