Looking at a truck with a 6 spd manual trans. Are these good transmissions? Got to be better then the auto. What size engine does that mean the truck has? I also was wondering what kind of MPG I could expect out of this truck. Its 4x4 long bed quad cab with 3.73 gearing. Anything else to know about these trucks would be great! Truck has less then 100k on the odometer.

yea good trans can hold lots of power with a good clutch. Motor is the 5.9. mpg is gonna be a tricky answer cause everyone says something different. But if its tuned well I'd say 18 to 24ish maybe. Mostly depends on your driving style. Sounds like a nice ride low miles too! If the price is right I'd jump!

my truck is a 5 speed but the final drive ratio is the same as the 6 speed and I average 16-18 in town, and 22-24 highway with the truck in my sig. And yes the trans is a good trans plus its the HO motor not the SO motor like mine, more HP. I have drove both and the only thing about the 6 speed if driving in stop and go traffic much you will really build up your left leg muscles... 6 speed seemed to shift alot compared to the 5 speed maybe it was just me

Oh edit my numbers for mpg are all hand calc not based on the liometer only accuracy that thing has is if it goes up I know im gettin better goes down I know Im gettin less and thats about it ..... highway that things reads almost 30 or more so

I like mine, but be preparred to replace the synchros. Dont make that keep you from buying it but it does seem to be their one weak point.

Mines an 03 with a six speed 4c4, andd stock I was getting 18in town. That was with 285-65-18's on it. I love mine I have put a lot of weight behind the truck and she had pulled it like a champ. I have also drove from NC to KY about once a month for the past 2 and a half years and even with 230k she's still runnin strong.

I have an 03 quad cab 4x4 - 6 spd manual trans - mine's a short box. I have averaged around 18 mpg hand-calc (haven't ever talked to anyone that says the meter reading matches the hand calc) - that's mixed driving and towing. My mpg depends a lot on how I drive it - drive it nice and it will reward you. No problem towing 24 ft camper and have hauled plenty of horses & cattle. Mine has 173K.
