Hey ladies and gents, I’m new here. I’ve visited this page a lot for answers but I can’t find jack about one thing. I have a 01 2500 5 speed… it’s geared like a tractor, I’m starting to notice the clutches are getting wore, and instead of tearing into this trans, I would like to swap it. What all would I need really with it already being manual? Any modifications? I’d really appreciate it fellas

Depends on your shop or ability to fab. Basically a lot. Google it. Lots of good stuff on this site also. SEARCH. Here's just one. nv4500 to G56

Do you have a standard and want to switch to a G56?
Clutches are throwing off a little, as well as tractor.
There is two styles of G56 AFAIK, both look the same but have a slightly different ratio on the Over drive
You want the latter one with a taller ratio. ( unless you are hauling heavy)
on mine the rear drive shaft was shortened 3.5 and the front stretched 3.5
The right side of the tunnel had to have some persuasion with a BFH to get the Bell housing to fit up.
again the transfer case shift rod needed a stretch.
The cross member needed to be re-drilled to get the mount to fit.
Flywheel redrilled for larger clutch (South Bend)
New input shaft.
I might have missed something .., it is simple - just money parts, and time.
This is more of a job for a hobbyist....because the little nuances will add up in a real shop to $$$$$$$$
