Mazama Open Range tire review

Mazama Open range review... These are a 285-75-17 tire, 10 ply tread 2 ply sidewall <--

Day 1: Out of the alignment shop, tons of drag, so much so I thought the brakes were dragging. Coasting down hills was rough, a lot of speed lost. High rolling resistance. Lots of squirm.

Day 4: Rolling resistance dropping, mpg trying to make a comeback (was extremely bad for 300~350 miles, 426 miles on it now and it has improved). squirm continues, probably has to do with the 2 ply sidewall

10/13/2018, 400.8 miles, 17.870 gal, 22.428 mpg Toyo Open Country 2's at 110k miles

10/18/2018, 535.1 miles, 25.471 gal, 21.008 mpg Mazama Open Range ATs at 535 miles... A lot of drag for first 300~350 miles, coasting down hill was a joke, most of it has come back now and would estimate its 90~95% of what it was with the Toyos.

11/10/2018, tires swapped... mpg numbers here...

I dont recommend a 75 series tire... Too much sidewall flex. I am either going to go back to the toyo in this size or this tire in the 70 series... If your anywhere in the tacoma area and want to do a meet & greet your welcome to go for a spin with me and see what i see...

Bailing on these tires... had some 30ish mph winds and truck felt like driving on springs... think bobble head motion..

These tires are probably fine on a lighter truck. OR in a 70 series tire.

Going back to the tried & true Toyo Open Country 2 in the 285-70-17 size.

I purchased these in 35x12.5x20 and I’m very happy with them so far. I have put 500 miles on and I’m amazed at how quiet they are, especially compared to the Nitto EXO Grapplers (for sale by the way), Inran last winter. The highway ride is very good and predictable and around town very good.

I took them on a fire service road that has a good mix of rocky surface and dirt with a lot of wash board. They were great, nothing extreme, but they had a really solid grip.

I see some snow in the mountains and I’m curious as to how these will do. They have the three peak rating, so I doubt I’ll be disappointed.

As for appearance, they have a good look to them. Aggressive and solid looking.

I’m not having any issues with side wall flex and would recommend buying these tires.

With the low profile of those tires you have, I'd expect no problems. I may give the 70 series a shot next time around if they offer the limited test time.

Please feel free to give some feedback here (or your own thread) when you get them in the white stuff. I'm still curious as to how they would perform under those conditions.

My Exo's were too noisy for my taste. Sold them and got some Toyo AT2's. The Toyo MT's I had a ways back were the most stable tire I've run too date.

Zero squirm even with the wide tread blocks. They were 285-75-17's
