Stock 18" rims

I have 2 questions,

The first is striaight forward...

1.) What should a nice set of the wheels pictured below sell for, with hub caps? (stock 2014, 18" wheels)

What is the largest 18" tire I can run on a stock truck, NO LIFT, NO level, with these rims. I know guys run LT285/75/R17's on stock rims without an issue. ( I am still running stock LT265/70 r17's.)

I would like to run the LT285/70 R18, only slightly shorter than the LT285/75 R17, and same width. But I am not sure the 18's are going to clear the control arms at full lock with the offset difference from my rims, 43mm to the 56mm (18" rims). Both 8" wide.

Looking at the calculator in the link below, assuming height and width are exact same, (I know they will be slightly different) the 18's will be 14 mm closer to the control arms... is their clearance for this?

Just want to see if other people are getting away with this combo on the 3rd gens. I have been looking at "The Official Wheel/tire/backspace/offset Fitment Thread" But all I found was that the 1" taller LT285/75/18's rub on 3rd gen control arms. Hoping the 1" shorter tires would give me the clearance needed.

Anyone know if the LT285/70R18 will clear on the truck in my signature, with the 18" wheels I am looking at purchasing?

I've run a 295/70r18 on 8.5 +24 and 9 +18 rims without issue. Both those have a bit more offset than stock rims. I have enough room that I don't think it should be an issue. Friend ran same tire on a 2016 with stock rims without issue.

I believe you have it backwards... both those rims have less offset than stock. Stock 07 rims are +43 (possibly 42 depending on where you look), 4th gen 18's have +56.

That would mean that your tires would be further from the center of the vehicle giving more clearance from the vehicle when pointed straight forward, than the rim/tire combination I am asking about. (38 mm further out for the 8.5" rims and 43mm for the 9" rims according to the calculator below)

Yes they are both 5.7" backspac as opposed to the 6.1" backspace of stock wheels so they are about 1/2 further out. (I hate talking offset because it is so ambiguous.) The clearance with either set of wheels is about 2" to the control arms.

Couple minutes with a tape measure would tell you if you are close. If you have stock offset rims just put wheels at full lock an if the distance on the radius to the control arms is more than tire radius height difference you are good. With wider tire you need to move away from tire by 1/2 width difference. Simple geometry.

Not to start a debate or derail my own thread, but both backspace and offset are just measurements to tell the location of the mounting surface on a wheel.

I do understand that switching between the two can get confusing especially when changing wheel width. That is why I use the online calculator, I have messed it up in the past, and why I attempted to be tactful...

No offense taken. When dealing with offset the reference plane gets confusing. Kind of why I switched to back space as that is the more important measurement for when you will rub on control arms or sway bar.

Anyone sell a set of the 2014+ 18" steel rims lately? What is a reasonable price in fair to good condition?

I bought rims, tires, lug nuts and caps for 800. Sold my old set for 200. New tires had under 500 miles on them

Answers to my question...

First off,

Looks like prices for the 4th gen 18" rims (just rims) in southern Wisconsin is from $200 for a rough set of 4 (would want to sand blast and paint) too $350 for a set of "perfect" rims. (sellers description, I have not seen them except for pictures... they did look good in the pictures though)

Second,

I talked to a guy that ran the LT285/70 R18's. They do not clear the control arms... He even ran a .25" spacer, while it helped it did not fix the rub at full lock.


Guess, I will have to wait on bigger rims/tires until I need to replace the control arms, at which point I will go with some high clearance arms.
