| glowpulgssuck | Been wanting a cap for my 04 4x4 long bed for a while and found a used snugger top for cheap off craigslist, and after few months the cons.... small fixable leaks in rain, limited hauling, exaggerates blind spots, extra weight, definitely makes a empty bed bounce worse. pros...definitely quieter inside the cab, haven’t noticed a change in fuel mileage, all the tools and stuff that were crammed under the rear seat can go in the bed, changed the look and functionality of the truck for the better. |

I have had several trucks with caps, and IMO< the higher the cap the better, as long as you have room to park it that is as having the taller cap, all the more so at the rear entry of bed, makes getting anything that gets up front easier, as way too easy IMO to smash your back on the cap if its lower? and just allows for a LOT more items to fit inside the bed then. NEXT, most of my caps have been LEER brand caps including the current one on my 2016 RAm 2500 , however sadly , I have to say this is the worst fitting cap I have ever owned and Leer has been absolutely useless in any sort of help they HAVE changed design on caps since mine, Gather even they knew the design was crap! but the model I have and like models, are just poor fitting on these Rams due to the tailgate design, and the FACT there is a slight curve to the tailgate top Leer's solution was to make a cheasy plastic cap that they stick on with double sided tape, but it doesn't fit flush on tailgate top, a BIG gap, where there molded cover doesn't even conform to the tailgate,,it doesn;t even really fit period, I mean its NOT even close to the trucks tailgate, , there engineer should have been fired over this thing being so far off! making it fail, and causes a BIG gap that over time, makes for larger and larger gaps and leaks, and ends up falling off at some point(about 1-1 & 1/2 yrs) I live NOT so far from the Leer Factory, I even went there looking for help and they offered NONE< other than to BUY there new version of there caps(which, didn;t look so great either in design!) Paid almost 2 grand for the cap when I bought it, and its been a poorly fitting cap , I do NOT recommend to anyone that wants a snug fit I did my own mods to try and make it better, and is, but still, for the price, they should have spent more time fitting parts! but still do recommend either a mid high or HIGH cap over the stock one's, they will make your life easier mine is a MID height model sorry don;t have any better pics handy, but you can see the slight higher than cab Cap, most all cap makers offer them, in either MID< or HIGH models, over the standard one! roof rack option is nice too if you ever haul LONG items, niot easy to get things on of, but is a option for hauling ladders and such, at rate times! |

I also have a tool box in the truck that is easily accessed via the "windoor". If I were ordering again I would have a tool box installed on the left side instead of the window. But now I've got two jerry cans of diesel sitting there, right above the tank fill door. Easy to fill at the station and easy to drain into the truck's tank with my "shaker" siphon. Poor man's aux. tank

The place I bought the cap from is right around the corner so I go there and order a new one. $30. No big deal. Just kind of ticks me off. I'm blaming my wife but it very well could be my fault. Almost certainly is. How does this affect my friends here at the Cummins Club For Boys? Those cap deals on the back of the tailgate can make it a little more difficult to close your tailgate. They like to catch on the cap rail when it's warm out. You'll see. So make sure you close your tailgate SOLIDLY before you haul arse down the road. In fairness to my wife, it's happened before. Not with the tailgate slamming down but I've opened the cap hatch lid and had the tailgate try to come down on me because it wasn't latched properly. Minor point. But worth noting. Now I gotta go put some tape on the hatch to keep water from getting into the bed when it rains. PITA. |
