BigFitzy Last winter I switched to Royal Purple Synchromax, plus the extra quart. I won't be going back to ATF. The trans is quieter, and shifts better. Just changed out the ATF in the transfer case with the same RP too.

akhr Makes a huge difference for sure, before the cooler, trans was easily getting over 200 degrees and when hot outside was over 235. Now even on the hottest day (over 100 outside temp) I’ll be around 190 and usually sits around 160 when about 70 outside temps. I have a switch and pretty much just turn it on once the truck is running. If it’s hot outside and the trans temp is up I’ll let the cooler run while the truck is off (fueling and making a pit stop). I could say it drop temps by about 40 to 50 degrees. Worth it IMO

K9Kodi Also how does yours kick on? User input only or when it hits certain temp? Or just always on?

K9Kodi Do you believe it is worth it? Makes a difference?

Nope, because these guys already did and did a better job then I ever could. I am using a different oil and did my cooler install a bit different. Mounted my pump and cooler where my def tank use to sit. Also used a Napa transmission filter with no bypass valve and a Napa remote filter kit.

Yes adding a extra quart makes it run hotter, experienced this myself. Ran Castrol syntrans, when dual mass failed I overfilled by a quart after doing the clutch and notice it ran about 15-20 degrees warmer then it did before. Dumped a quart out and back to normal. I am running a trans cooler as well. I’ll upload a pic of the fluid I put in mine, shifts better in the cold then mobil 50 and is also recommend by mb for this transmission.

Helps some but still kinda loud. You get used to it.

JRD Like K9Kodi said, I changed mine from ATF+4 to Delvac 50 when I swapped mine out. I'd rather run what the actual tranny manufacturer recommends and not what Dodge just put in there out of convenience.

K9Kodi If your trying to stay stock, they come shipped with atf+4. Many folks swap to what Mercedes, the maker of the tranny call for, an actual manual transmission gear oil. I think delvac 50 or something along those lines. If you do a search it’s been covered a lot but I’ll juat be going with a manual tranny gear oil when time comes.
