Used a cherry picker to lift the front of mine all the way to the top. Wasn't a big deal.
FYI new CUMMINS gasket was 4 piece - I didn't like that. When I started to tighten the bolts (in proper order), the gasket wanted to squeeze out. I would use either a one piece, OR a Mahle gasket. From my recent experience.

|98whitelightnin||I pretty much did it the way GAmes did and had no problems. I also left the pickup tube in place.|

|GAmes||He means you can put the jack under the crankshaft pulley. I prefer to lift it from the top with a hoist. The one time I did mine I disconnected the hoses into the inlet and out of the turbo. Removed #5 & 6 valve covers and covered the rockers to keep debris out, disconnected the exhaust downpipe and removed the fan. The engine will lift quite a ways up with those things disconnected. Loosen the bolts that are through the motor mounts enough for them to slide up the grooves. I also backed off the transmission mount bolts a bit. Once lifted I suggest you put blocks under the motor mounts in case the lifting device fails.|

Not following that. You mean just rock it or let it slide up in the motor mounts?
When do you look at bearings? Mine has 225k

Take the rear adapter plate off, it will be easier. Just jack the motor up by the crank pulley.
Hardest part is dropping the pick up tube into the oil pan

|blackDOHC||You'll still need to lift the motor to lower the pan enough to drop the pickup tube inside. I replaced my oil pan when my trans was out and it still wasn't a fun day.|

I have transmission out and flex-plate off, will be installing a billet flex-plate.
Can I replace the pan gasket now without raising the motor? I probably should reseal the oil cooler and vacuum pump while there.
Any other suggestions while there?
I just did front cover and seals.
