Gator1 Talking about manifolds and compounds I always wonder why nobody has used a 3rd gen in the upside down position like the 2nd gens. It would put the turbo forward and seems like a lot more room.

I bought a DPS exhaust manifold (CARB legal) based on feedback in this forum. The manifold came with gaskets and they're single layer metal. Do MLS gaskets really make that big of a difference? if so, what brand/source is recommended?

Also, it has two ports for the temp probe. They're at the collector on either side of the partition. I was planning to install it in the location closest to the firewall. Is that the recommended location?

Not sure what else you replaced when you installed the AFE manifold, but I'd hazard a guess at new manifold gaskets on a new & unwarped exhaust manifold. Port matching does help, though. Keeps your off idle torque, while avoiding the raised power band so common on large port exhaust manifolds.

Only 200 less egt ? I would have thought it be 400 or more depending on the set up. And yeah I realize aftermarket manifolds are stronger then the stock manifold and are less likely to crack. But what Iím a little skeptical if they would help much for egts . Iím sure they help some put will it be worth the 450$ plus price tag? I plan on buying one eventually but canít decide if I want to get a 3gen replacement or just go over to a 2 gen since Iím more then likely going to add a second turbo . Iíd hate to have to buy a manifold twice .

ofelas 200f less EGTs at WOT are not uncommon with compounds.

Aftermarket manifolds do help, as they're usually stronger, and help support the extra weight of compounds.

njmurvin I'm having a DPS exhaust manifold installed next week. I'm hoping it will help some with EGTs while towing. However, I'm going to have trouble comparing with my current setup as my EGT probe is currently mounted in my exhaust brake housing post turbo. I'm having the probe moved to the new exhaust manifold as it comes with pre-drilled and threaded ports for it.

I have an AFE bladerunner, and it did help, I could immediately hear it on start up the turbo was whistling a better tune and throttle response for sure is better. It's easy to see why when you look at the collector of a stock 3rd gen is just horrible. My egt's actually are not horrible 1100 in the hills 70mph in OD.... as long as I don't goose it, but full honk, and hold it there it really shoots up!

Gator1 I still have a few ideas to play around with like airbox mods, or a 2nd gen manifold, and I had to re check the turbo specs I have, and it is kind of a hybrid in that the IND side is a 52, or 56mm and the EX side is a 82mm with an AR of 89 so maybe it's really set up for low end, and great driveability manners, and the top end air flow suffers thus the high egt's? It might just be a great candidate for a compound setup?

I doubt it would help much. Iíve seen trucks with 800 plus hp with 4 inch exhausts. The biggest reason I went to 5 is because of the sound. I do think I recall that it did lower my egts maybe buy 50? I canít remember for sure, thatís been years ago. I do seem to remember the truck seemed to pull a little harder on the top end vs the factory 3.5 inch exhaust.
