On my ‘18 mega cab, the board installation was a breeze as this truck came with factory installed running boards. It has the factory welded well nuts and pinch weld seam drilled already. I only had to drill four holes for the lights and the four holes for the 3/16” rivets that hold the motor bracket spacers in place. Mega cabs do not require cutting the boards either.

My ‘14 mega cab did not come with factory installed boards and took about an additional hour to install.

I’m 54 years old, 265 pounds and 6’-2” and did not have an issue reaching the wiring harnesses to splice into. Seeing the colors is a different story. I never needed to remove the panel under the steering wheel to access the wiring harness.

scj64 Well, self inflicted issues was my problem!
I did not have the solid violet wire connected to the correct wire. Thereís a violet wire with a teal stripe that I could not see when I connected to it. This morning I could clearly see the teal stripe. When I hooked to the solid violet wire, itís amazing how things work properly now.
It sucks to get old but this confirms Iím following through with my eye lasik appointment on the 15th.

scj64 I double checked my wiring tonight and 3 of the doors trigger the boards to drop when the doors open after I install the fuse in the Amp Research power wire but the driver side front door does not trigger. The power door locks do not work when the fuse is installed.

This tells me the solid violet wire is not hooked to the correct wire in the harness. I’m going to pull the white harness tomorrow and make sure the wire I’m tied to is solid violet.
I pulled the fuse again and everything works correctly on my truck.

I originally had the violet/gray wire hooked correctly but failed to notice the right board was jammed against the pinch weld as I guess I didn’t preload that side enough. Switching the Blue/gray wire back turned off the security light.

If the violet wire is hooked up correctly, I’ll definitely call Amp Monday.

G. Mcpherson One wire has a Dark line on it. Just match them up. Might just try it again.

scj64 I pulled the fuse for the running boards and the truck is back to normal.
Now I need to find which wire is crossed.....

Amp Research Wiring Woes

Installed the new boards today.
Had a 50/50 chance with the violet/gray wire and of course I landed the wrong wire. Switched the wires around and the right side board worked, the left did not and now the security light is on (the red one under the N in the gear selector positions).

Auto door locks donít work at all including tailgate.

Disconnected both batteries and now neither board works nor the door locks. You have to manually lock and unlock every door and tailgate.

Everything else works including remote start.

Tomorrow morning Iím going to disconnect the wiring and see if I can get the security light off.

Any ideas?
