Indy Jamboree and BEER grrrrr.....

I received this E-mail over the weekend from the Special Events Performance Series who puts on the Jamboree this coming weekend at the Indiana State Fairgrounds....the 22nd to the 24th. I'm pissed, and so are all of my friends.

Quote:
NEW FAIRGROUNDS POLICIES ON ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

Memorandum

TO: All Pre-registered 25th Anniversary 4-Wheel Jamboree Participants
FROM: The Promotions Company and Special Events

Important information regarding Alcohol on the Indiana State Fairgrounds!
Participants are allowed to bring coolers into the show in their vehicle for food and drinks. However, the Indiana State Fairgrounds has forewarned Special Events that the fairgrounds is a licensed premise for the sale of alcohol. Therefore it is illegal to bring in or consume alcoholic beverages on the Fairgrounds which were not purchased on the Fairgrounds.

Indiana Code 7.1-5-8-5
Taking alcoholic beverage on licensed premises
________________________________________

(c) It is a Class C misdemeanor for a person, for the person's own use, to knowingly carry on, convey to, or consume on or about the licensed premises of a permittee, an alcoholic beverage that was not then and there purchased from that permittee.
(Formerly: Acts 1973, P.L.55, SEC.1.) As amended by Acts 1978, P.L.2, SEC.713; P.L.177-1999, SEC.8; P.L.136-2000, SEC.5; P.L.204-2001, SEC.56.

I really don't remember if they were selling alcohol last year or not. Many of us are debating on what to do. We don't want to spend 5 bucks for a small beer, cuz you know they will dry hump you on price vs quantity. We just can't justify spending that kind of money. I love beer, not a huge fan of liquor....we may end up buying a bunch of fruit drinks and dumping out some and topping them off with some rum or something.

wont be mutch of a jam without beer will it? put your beer in your tool box (hot) most boxes hold 4 or 5 cases on the bottom, cover that and fill your ice chest with just ice. a garage sale suitcase will usally hold a couple cases. i know youve done this before.:thumbsup

Well I took my tool box last year and had a cooler on one side full of the goods, and then other side had stuff like chips and whatever didn't need to be cold. I'm not sure how hard they'll look to keep alcohol from getting in. I mean if they go to great lengths such as checking inside and everything, it will be a mess getting in. Everyone who has been to an event this large knows what i'm talking about. I have only been to the Indy Jambo, but there are times the line just to get into the grounds can exceed 30, 40 trucks!! Plus the jam inside around the loop....it'll just be ridiculous. That law is ridiculous too.

House that's kind of what I planned on doing. I've got some plastic cups around the house, like red, blue, yellow. I was thinking about taking a few and just looking at what color they're putting beer in then filling my own cup so I wouldn't have to buy their ridiculously overpriced beer at all....

What really gets me, I guess this law has been on the books for several years, and they are just now bringing it up????

I think its a dumb law anyhow. What I want to know, if they start enforcing this law everywhere, whats it going to do out at the track for the 500 and 400, its just rediuculous.

Is that right, the law has existed? Did they not sell alchohol during the previous years?

As for the clear bud cup, if thats what they sell then i'll just have to buy one. I was thinking today about just taking some of my tools out of their cases and putting the beers in there and putting ice in. They're all plastic so it won't hurt anything. I don't really think they'll make me open all my cases labeled "DeWalt" looking for beer, eh?

I always buy the big plastic Lemonade cups and dump it. It has a lid and staw and holds 2 beers. If that dont work Camelbacks drink systems hold up to 6 beers andd keeps it cool.

Well I think i'm gonna use a couple of my DeWalt cases. My sawzall case will hold enough to get me a good buzz goin. I'll just have to be sneaky when gettin it out and pouring it in my cup and making sure I hide the empty bottles.
