The Discount Tire Rally on the Rocks officially KICKS OFF TODAY!!!

After a start time yesterday of 3:30 AM and a 9.5 hour drive, our booth is now stocked with over 400 tires and wheels and all sets qualify for 15%% off INSTANTLY. For those at home you too can take advantage of this savings online at Discount Tire Direct - SHOP HERE.

As we were setting up the booth we had the opportunity to go meet with some of the longtime friends we've met from past Discount Tire Rally on the Rocks plus some new faces.

It was nice to see Lance and his lovely wife (the owner of the Rally) and his awesome family as they were taking care of the people coming in and signing up early for the trails. The whole family pitches in to make this rally happen.

As always it is also fun to see all the people coming in early with their family and extended furry friends. This looks like it is going to be another awesome family friendly event - looking forward to hitting the trails!

More coverage to come!!!

Last nights annual industry dinner was a huge hit with well over 100 vendors and media people attending!

Everybody had an awesome meal and a huge thanks to our guy Addam for getting up at 2 and 4 AM to tend to the 65 pounds of pulled pork - cooking them to perfection on the amazing Camp Chef pellet grills. Also shout out to Method Race wheels for providing refreshments and Moab Ice for letting us bring a trailer full of ice to the condos!

After getting their fill of pork and all the fixins, it was time to see who could toss the cornhole bags the best! What a blast talking to all the people that came to support our outstanding sport. Our friend Cowboy and his daughter are always a treat to talk to with all the stories they have from being local guides in Moab and on the Colorado river for some 30 plus years.

Off-road coverage and wheeling pics are coming soon as the guided trails kick into full swing!!! Today we will be riding on Fins-N-Things testing out some new 30x10.00R-15 Patagonia SXT Milestar tires mounted on New Raceline Trophy wheels!

Wednesday night it was time for the Discount Tire Ice Cream Social and Raffle!!! This is always a fan favorite as we throw out tons of FREE swag into the crowd in between raffled items and hand out delicious ice cream treats.

It was a blast watching all the little kids that kept coming up to the cooler and grabbing another one of their favorite ice creams. I loved seeing their faces as they had one after another.

The list of giveaway items was pretty impressive - here is most of the items:

  • BFG T/A KM3 33x10.00R- 15 tires
  • Method Tensor Regulator 33x10.00R-15
  • Milestar Patagonia SXT 32x10.00R-15
  • Goodyear Light Truck or Passenger tires
  • Assult Mirrors and Cooler
  • Dynojet Programmers
  • Rigid Light bar
  • Misc Discount Tire Swag, Cooler and Backpacks stuffed full of Nascar goodies

In the end almost everyone ended up with some items plus they had a fun filled night as the Discount Tire team entertained them. One unique thing happened at the end of the night. The guy that won the set of BFG tires has to tie them to the top of his Yamaha YXZ. That is unique enough but to top it off he won a set of tires 2 years ago and had to tie them to the top of his Yamaha the same way!

The Discount Tire Raffle was a huge success and we had the opportunity to make some new friends.

Today we will be making breakfast for all drivers and participants before the start of guided trail rides. Eric and I will be hitting Moab Rim Trail and helping anyone that needs it.

Stay tuned for more action!!!

Yesterday morning the Discount Tire team was up and at'em early at the Spanish Trails Arena making breakfast sandwiches for all the participants!

In typical Discount Tire fashion, we worked together to make 500 delicious sausage and egg sandwiches for anyone that wanted one. It was awesome to see the team put everything together so quickly!

Some friends came over to join in on the fun and help out as well. It's always nice to see how infectious it is to give back to the community. We saw some of the people that were at the Discount Tire Ice Cream Social/Raffle come over to get some food. The little girls that kept making runs to the ice cream cooler showed up as well. We made sure to tell their parents that there was still some ice cream in the cooler and to make sure the girls grabbed one if they wanted one. Why not? they are here on vacation.

After everyone had their bellies full it was time for us to go get in line for the Discount Tire Sponsored ride on Moab Rim! This is one of our favorite trails - an update from this ride coming soon!

As we arrived to the starting line up it was packed with some amazing side by sides - what another awesome day in Moab!

The start of Moab Rim gets the mood set on high as there is a big rock you have to launch up and over - never mind the 100 foot drop seemingly right next to you. There is plenty of room but your mind plays tricks telling you it is only a couple of feet from certain death. As one after the other make it up and over with excellent help from the trail guides, the adrenaline was definitely flowing.

The Patagonia SXT made the crack look easy. We also had one of our other guys (Addam) on the trail with us in his RZR 4 XP 1000 running Method 405 15x7 5+2 wheels shod with BFG T/A KM3 in 32x10R15 tires. With Addams extra ground clearance and solid traction the crack was a mere bump.

The second obstacle is called Z-Turn because of how you normally have to turn in a "Z" fashion but Addam decided to hit the wall straight on to test the traction of the BFG tires. He launched to the top of the rock face with ease.

One after the other everyone made it through the tough spots as we kept making our way to the top of the hill.

This part of the trail is extremely rocky and we decided to hang back so that we could punish the tires by driving through the rocks fast to test the durability and toughness. I have to say I'm glad it was not my machine as we took a few hard hits, but the tires held up great!

We reached the lookout for lunch which is a gorgeous spot on the side of a cliff that over looks the town of Moab. It's always fun to have a few minutes to talk to some of the other riders and share stories from the trail and just enjoy the beauty.

After lunch we were back on the trail and it seamed the group was on a mission as the pace was picked up on the way down. We were making good time on the rocky trail until there was a bottle neck that stopped us. Being at the back of about 20 rigs we couldn't see what was going on but later found out someone rolled on their side. This was some other riders that were coming up. Everyone helped out the other group and got them back on their wheels and on their way.

We all made it to the bottom without any further incidents. When we arrived back at the condos we inspected both the Patagonia SXT tires and BFG T/A KM 3 tires. There were surprisingly no chips, slices or any noticeable wear despite the very rugged terrain we had run.

Today's guided run will be more mild but it is still a tough rocky trail named Porcupine Rim - Stay Tuned!!!

We had some technical difficulties with the internet the last couple of days at the event so we are a little late on updates - we apologize for the delay!

Continuing on to Friday!

Our Discount Tire crew hit Porcupine Rim Trail. This is not necessarily a tough trail but it is very rocky with a few ledges. Sometimes the trails that are supposed to be easy are the ones that bite you. This happened to be the case for our crew as Eric while trying to clime one of the ledges hit the throttle and snapped his front drive shaft! Fortunately he was able to do ¾ of the in and out trail in just 2 wheel drive. His Patagonia SXT tires were up for the match. You could hardly tell he had just rear wheel drive as they clawed their way to the lookout point with ease. The look out has an amazing view and from what I have learned there were many dozens of movies shot on the valley floor below.

It was pretty cool to learn Bob and Marla were on the trail and sporting some new Tensor Regulator tires! They happened to be the first customers for Discount Tire at this years event. I checked with them at lunch and they couldn't be happier with their new tires.

Friday night the Rally provided a fantastic BBQ for the entire crowd which was was followed by the Grand Raffle!!!

The arena was packed to standing room only. As the announcer rattled off ticket numbers one after the other the excited crowd were kept stirred up by the ROTR team trowing out goodies every so often. Discount Tire gave out sets of tires and wheels along with many other awesome items.

This year there was well over $25000 worth of prizes raffled out which was a record!!!

Saturday was a sad day for the Discount Tire Team as it was the last day of the Discount Tire Rally on the Rocks. This year was once again the best ever with so many people and vendors in attendance. We had a blast catching up with our old friends and making some new ones. This year there was approximately 65% new people at the event.

The Discount Tire crew were scheduled to run the Hell's Revenge which is one of our favorites because of the sheer beauty and the red slick rock moonscape type of terrain.

Since Eric broke his front driveshaft on Porcupine Rim the day prior, we decided it was not a good idea to go on the group trail ride with just rear wheel drive. We thought his General could make it with the Patagonia SXT tires but we didn’t want to chance breaking something else and holding up the group.

We met up with the trail guides at the Arena and explained the situation and let them know one of the guys from Trail Armor would fill in to help if needed. It’s always nice to have friends help out when something unexpected happens.

The Trail Guide had their morning talk with the drivers and handed the meeting over to Eric where he explained our situation and gave them some advice about tire basics, such as airing down tires for better traction. After a brief talk, everyone was handed out a cool Discount Tire dry bag with goodies inside such as a low-pressure air gauge and an awesome dust mask - among other things. These bags have been a big hit and in high demand all week!

After the group set off for the ride the Discount Tire team headed off to the Arena to start breaking down the booth and loading up the remaining tires/wheels and displays. After everything was loaded we decided to go out to Hell's Revenge with the whole team to see if we could catch up with the group that left earlier. With the extra side by sides along to help if needed, Eric wanted to test the traction of his Patagonia SXT tires with just 2-wheel drive.

As Eric approached the first steep trail there was a bit of apprehension, but with good throttle control he sailed to the top with ease. The second climb is even steeper and longer but it was no match for the Patagonia SXT tires as they had no problem getting excellent traction.

With no sign of the group in sight we took a few photos of our side by sides with the amazing 360° background. You can take a photo in any direction and be in awe.

We continued on the trail but never caught up with our group. I was very impressed with the traction of the Patagonia SXT tires provided in all the different terrain we encountered. There was never and an obstacle that gave us any trouble what so ever.

You may have seen some of the other RZR’s we had in the booth during the Rally which had Method wheels with 33" Tensor DS and BFG T/A KM3 tires. All the tires and wheels delivered solid performance on the trails.

We hope you have had as much fun as we did! If you didn’t have a chance to attend, hopefully you will make reservations for next year as we believe this is one of the best family friendly events in the country!

Remember, always help anyone that needs it, never leave anyone on the trail, have fun and buy all your tires and wheels at Discount Tire - we'll see you next year!!!
