Question Gray trans fluid

I had the trans rebuilt and the fluid is gray not red oil isn’t burnt also it is “flaring” engine revs alittle between sec and third. I took the truck back to the trans shop and they didn’t know what would cause the issues any ideas?

Does the fluid smell like ATF, assuming it's not burnt?

R12 in the summer, Webasto in the winter; cassette tapes & SAE-20078 all year.

It's hardly the heat exchanger has failed and is allowing coolant into the trans oil?. I've seen it many times in engines and the oil turns grey.

Heat up a piece of metal and place a drop of fluid on it. If it pops and crackles then it is water.
