linkage must have slipped. nothing ot prevent you going into park aside from that. there is a small nut behind the drivers side fender, down behind teh wheel. loosen that and see if you can move the trans and shifter column in and out of all its gears. if so then just adjust and tighten back up.

Well...won’t go into park, will show it’s in reverse, N, D, 2,1. Doesn’t actually shift into any of those gears except for 2, and 1. Did my transmission take a crap? 161k miles. If so what do I need to buy in order to rebuild it, I’m sure it’s not cheap if I take it to a transmission shop..

Bro for christ sake give us some more info. I dont care what the stupid indicator on the dash says.

Does anything happen when you move the shift lever?

Were you towing 20k lbs and it made a loud bang and now wont go into park?

Did you check everything from the column to the trans?

Does it even have fluid in it?

Come on man. Help us help you.

2002 ram 2500 quad cab shortbed ST. Red, 4x4, nv4500 swap 24v, 66mm silver bullet, 100hp injectors , fass titanium 150, 4" exhaust, guages. 190k miles.

No hablo spanglish amigo. Lol

But in all seriousness, have you checked from the shift linkage on column down to the trans? There isn't much to go wrong there.

if it wont go past those two gears id have to think its linkage binding or slippage. there is a detent in the column around the R to park but there is no detent on the trans. if you disconnect the linkage you should be able to move the trans shift selector (on the housing) through all the gears.

Yes I can move it into all gears on the transmission by hand, but not when I hook up the shifter.

Check cables, linkage and plastic linkage connectors/locks. If the plastic goes away you do not get full linkage thrust.

99 2500, Quad cab, 4x4 47RE, BD pressure lock on it, small BD 90/140 chip on the VP 44 connection plug, 17" 3rd gen wheels. 3.55 diffs. Ruenell front bumper and warn winch, Rancho adj shocks. 663k miles.

Where the shift rods connect to each other on the side of trani(and maybe above) they snap into plastic bushings I think. (If those plastic bushings break and fall out there is too much play in the linkage and it wont go all the way into gear or park. Also if is is lose on the shaft into the trnai the half round hole can beat out doing the same thing.

Probably worn bushings then tbh, any idea where I can other them I am sure the dodge house will say they are discontinued like most things on this truck...
